Got my Seiko 5 the other day. You will notice the band is missing, that is because it was perhaps the biggest piece of crap I've ever seen on a watch. My boys have won watches with "metal" bands on them from claw machines that were as good or better. Truly surprised Seiko would release a line with that bad of band on it. While not a luxury brand, you usually get decent quality with this brand. Yes it was purchased from a authorized retailer and not a Grey Market seller. The band was so bad I'm going to simply add a black leather strap to it instead. Automatic movement for 100 bucks isn't terrible but this is no Orient..... Maybe I better buy a few more of those in case Seiko decides to mess with a good thing since they own Orient..... The case on this too has proved in a few days while I wore it to be Terribly smudge prone probably another shortcoming caused by price point. Guess I have a new camping and hunting watch. Very Worldly collection there. What are your thoughts on the Vostok? The Russian Maker has intrigued me for a bit I have never pulled the trigger however. Likewise with Armida Watch from Hong Kong. I see you have the Mako as do I, while sometimes comparing watches is apples to oranges, I think it this case it might help me. How do the two stack up against the Orient Mako? Quality? Movement? Bracelets? I by in large, wear stainless bracelets on my watches and nothing seems to vary in quality more than the bracelet. For the price I was quite pleasantly surprised with the stock Mako bracelet.

Sorry for the late reply, I somehow missed your post Huh

The Armida is a good solid watch, well build, very reliable and I would defiantly recommend. Much better than the Mako IMHO.

The Russians on the other hand are cheap watches and this is reflected in the watch itself, the bracelet that come with the watch is useless, lume is basic (at best), setting the date is a pita, the bezel is biderectional and I wouldn't trust it to time anything, and QC is poor. I was lucky with mine as they have no issues so far.

On the plus side is the price, the 200m water resistance, handwinding movement, many models to choose from, cheap to replace and service. And they can take a beating.

The acrylic crystal may be either a plus or a minus depending how you see it.

Agreed. I have three Vostoks [automatics] and they all keep decent time but definitely more of a novelty watch IMHO. For the price point, a good value for a mil style watch and I am a sucker for the retro Eastern bloc aesthetic. I ditch the stock band and use a Maratac Nato strap.

Makos are $93 on Massdrop currently as an FYI.
