That's a good question.  I dare not speak to your face.  I only made the statement because with the right gap WR1, it's much better to me than a Timeless 95.  The 95 is hard to beat in smoothness but the WR1 comes close.

I judge razors by efficiency, blade feel, and smoothness/comfort.  As to WR1 gaps, the 74 was the first gap I tried.  I prefer the T95.  You likely would too.  It's not as efficient, nor as smooth. The 80 and 86 gaps are where the WR1 starts to really shine.  The 80 comes close to a T95 in efficiency and about the same blade feel.  I prefer the 80 over T95 because, it's a Wolfman.  Superficial, I get it.  The 86 kicks up blade feel and efficiency over the T95.  The WR1-94 gap is the best high efficiency razor I've tried.  It trumps the 86 in efficiency and stays just as smooth.  It cuts very close.  I have more efficient razors but they are aggressive/harsh feeling and I'll part with them very soon.  The Ikon Tech and 2011 R41 just cut too close for me.  They can be fun to play with occasionally but I have no need for that kind of focus.

It's terribly subjective, as you know.  And playing gap roulette with an razor you can't easily replace can be difficult.  I was spooked by larger Wolfman gaps because you really don't read a lot about them on forums, or didn't 6 months ago.  I found very little discussion of them. 74 seemed like a good jumping off point but to me, the 86 is the best WR1 head imo.  With practice it can be wielded almost like a T95...not totally mindless but not with that "Oh crap, if I'm off by 1% this thing will eat me."

I can't speak to ATT.  My experience is limited.  I had a 7 piece OC set and didn't care for it at all.

Hopefully OP doesn't mind the slight sidetrack but the info may help him pick a gap the day he places a WR1 order.

That's kinda why I stopped even bothering with it. I sold mine for what I got it for and moved on. Sounds like the WR1 .86 would work for me. I'll probably get struck by lightening first though.

I was thinking about that the other day!  Seems like the WR2 is much similar to Timeless 95 than the WR1,  (higher starting gap),   does the WR2 locks the blade rigid as in the Wr1?

Honestly, I've never had a problem nor concern with blade clamping/rigidity in any razor I've owned.  Perhaps I have and am just not astute enough to know that's what I was dealing with. I usually avoid those conversations, Ha!

A picture is worth 1000 words tho.  T95. WR2, WR1.  Hope this helps you answer your own question.

It 100% helps!!! I can see the WR2 locks the blade very rigid as well! Great! now I want both Wolfmans! but I Will push for WR2 as my first one if possible.

Absolutely go WR2 if you get a chance. There are very few of them on the street. I bet there aren't many WR1s being ordered now.

The WR2, any gap, would be good trade bait for any gap WR1 you want. May get some extra goodies thrown in for you too.

You just may! Haha. You never know what might happen the day you pull up his site and the Sold Out icon is no longer there. Especially the first time. The world gets real fuzzy. The the stress of getting in and out FAST is terrifying. Best 60 seconds ever.

I have a question if someone can help. I own a Wolfman .67 SB SS but I want to up the efficiency and I’m thinking of purchasing the .86 gap when I get a chance. Also I want to experience a bit more blade feel. I also own a karve razor the C plate which is a .85 gap a shy of the Wolfman .86. By looking at both razors the head geometry looks quite similar. The Karve C is perfect for me in terms of efficiency and blade, would you say the Wolfman .86 feels the same at Karve C plate?

This would help me massively if someone has experience both with razor/gaps. It’s not easy to purchase a Wolfman directly. I just want to make the right decision when I gets the chance.

Not to go off track too far...do the items appear under SHOP option and can you buy just a razor head?

I have been checking out the .68 SB timeless and may purchase today or tomorrow.

Edit: The only two razors that were too mild (way too mild) for me were the Feather AS-D2 and the ATT Calypso M1. So a part of me is thinking 95 SB. But since I shave almost everyday the .68 SB may be the better option.

The Karve gap is slightly deceiving as far as blade feel because the blade is slightly recessed. I have the Wolfman .61, .74 and .94 in the WR1 head I had the Karve D,E & F plate I would say the 74 Wolfman shaved very close to the E plate and the F was not as efficient as the 86 which I sold to a friend. I think if you really like the feel of the Karve C plate I would go with a Wolfman WR1 .74 or WR2 .98 which I got to try thanks to LOOT

It would be better if there was a plate between 0.68 and 0.95.

0.68 is extremely mild.

Thanks for the info really appreciate it. I also have the Karve D & E plate which are slightly harsh in blade feel but I can get very good shave but I have to be carful with the pressure. It certainly sounds deceiving. I will definitely will go with the .74 when I get the chance. Thanks
