I agree ,95 Timeless Ti&SS are wonderful shavers and do not get the true recognition it deserves. If they weren't so available I feel people would put in in a class like the Wolfman

You had the wrong gap, which can be an issue.

What is the right one? I've heard people say the .74 is the best razor they have ever owned hands down. Then again I've heard some say the same about the other gaps as well. I think there is A LOT of placebo/psychology when it comes to these razors, because damn it, this thing is a unicorn and I had a hell of a time getting it so it HAS to be the best razor I have.

That's a good question. I dare not speak to your face. I only made the statement because with the right gap WR1, it's much better to me than a Timeless 95. The 95 is hard to beat in smoothness but the WR1 comes close.

I judge razors by efficiency, blade feel, and smoothness/comfort. As to WR1 gaps, the 74 was the first gap I tried. I prefer the T95. You likely would too. It's not as efficient, nor as smooth. The 80 and 86 gaps are where the WR1 starts to really shine. The 80 comes close to a T95 in efficiency and about the same blade feel. I prefer the 80 over T95 because, it's a Wolfman. Superficial, I get it. The 86 kicks up blade feel and efficiency over the T95. The WR1-94 gap is the best high efficiency razor I've tried. It trumps the 86 in efficiency and stays just as smooth. It cuts very close. I have more efficient razors but they are aggressive/harsh feeling and I'll part with them very soon. The Ikon Tech and 2011 R41 just cut too close for me. They can be fun to play with occasionally but I have no need for that kind of focus.

It's terribly subjective, as you know. And playing gap roulette with an razor you can't easily replace can be difficult. I was spooked by larger Wolfman gaps because you really don't read a lot about them on forums, or didn't 6 months ago. I found very little discussion of them. 74 seemed like a good jumping off point but to me, the 86 is the best WR1 head imo. With practice it can be wielded almost like a T95...not totally mindless but not with that "Oh crap, if I'm off by 1% this thing will eat me."

I can't speak to ATT. My experience is limited. I had a 7 piece OC set and didn't care for it at all.

Hopefully OP doesn't mind the slight sidetrack but the info may help him pick a gap the day he places a WR1 order.

Thanks for this info. I was initially thinking of getting the standard gap whenever I had the chance to pick up a WR1 but now it looks like 74 would be a much better starting point or even 86. Appreciate it! I want a gap that feels as smooth and efficient as the Timeless 95.

Then you want the WR2 head....likely in a 115. I know the 125 is more efficient than the T95 and arguably smoother. And the head is still much smaller than the T95, my one big complaint. Happy hunting my friend.

I was thinking about that the other day! Seems like the WR2 is much similar to Timeless 95 than the WR1, (higher starting gap), does the WR2 locks the blade rigid as in the Wr1?

I have both.  IMO it's a tough decision but I think the 0.86 is perfectly smooth and I felt the 0.86mm shaved more efficently than the 0.95mm (I want to get a WR1 in 0.94mm OC).  However, both of these experiences were with open comb.

Honestly, I've never had a problem nor concern with blade clamping/rigidity in any razor I've owned. Perhaps I have and am just not astute enough to know that's what I was dealing with. I usually avoid those conversations, Ha!

A picture is worth 1000 words tho. T95. WR2, WR1. Hope this helps you answer your own question.

It's a good sidetrack though and about actual use and NOT arguing about them not being available/price/etc.

Lots of good info in your post.
