Formerly ebay was not required to notify the government taxing authorities unless an ebay seller did 200 transactions and $20,000. Now it is simply $600.00 or more and you'll get a 1099 form at the end of the year. The same rules go for Paypal, Etsy, and any other third party go between in sales or in payment processing. This is why ebay wants tax #s and other personal info. Gov requires they do it. Definitely going to affect the bottom line. Elections have consequences.

Over a thousand transactions and they don't have my tax numbers so I'm not sure where you got that.

And I preferred using PayPal versus their new method which is just a way to cut PayPal out so they can make more money themselves.

You have to look for it .... but I got 'it' on ebay. All of 'em be doing that now ... 3rd party transactions  ....

Like (1) traded razors; (2) razors purchased in a lot; (3) razor paid with WU; or (4) razors got from friends with F&F...
I got the form from eBay about $2,600. Tax people asked me some questions and got some deductions ( internet etc...) and was able to take care of it with cost of things. I did not  profit from it all.

Apparently this IRS stuff only applies to the Ebay USA site...I have not tried this yet but I will.

Im thinking it may be possible for me (non US resident/citizen) to log on to say Ebay UK
and list my stuff there, and expose it to a global audience, while charging in pounds.

Worth trying, will report back if successful.

I purchase my gear to enjoy the instruments and software.  I think it’s implied some gear won’t hold its value as well as other.  It’s also my opinion a large percentage of gear will take a hit in value

Here’s an example: I have a Blackland Polished SS Blackbird Straight Bar Kit, both handles and stand in its original packaging, retail is 375.  The first $270 “in my pocket” when I list it Wednesday gets it shipped Priority insured.  That’s a $105 hit and another $10-20 shipping. I reach for my BrassBird more.  That’s just the way it is.  I recently commissioned a brush from an artisan, received it, hate the colour, gave it to my BFF.  What am I going to do, cry about it? Gorgeous brush, knot is great, just not for me. Chalk up another $150 loss on the Rob Loss Board

Someone made the comment about the “correct” gear selling faster than less desirable gear.  VERY true, especially when configuring your custom gap choices.  The base plates that have one side at .95 and the other side at 1.45; that’s going to be a very tough sell.  Especially for dual comb razors…… I never understand why anyone would order a different gap on open comb side versus straight bar side.  It’s implied the OC side will be slightly more efficient anyway.  I guess that’s why they call it a custom made to order razor

ALL this STUFF is disposable income.  If you’re robbing Peter to pay James or spending your mortgage monies on this STUFF, you have a larger issue than a $200 hit in value on a razor

Am a firm believer in merit of use value over exchange value. Markets and price discovery have become increasingly corrupted since Greenspan and now birds are coming home to roost.

Funny you mention this, someone said it’s an expensive fee a person pays a bank for their home? Like 15-30 years.  Weird, I purchased my home and it’s furnishings from REI outdoor co-op.  I have beach front in La Jolla, here’s an image of where I live.  Don’t by into that mortgage hype, someone is ripping someone off…

The geniuses in DC say this inflation thing is at 8.5%.  Where did these guys go to school? Do these ppl in Washington realise some of us sat across the room from them and they were C-D students at best? Tack 2-4 basis points on to that 8.5 and the truth begins to surface.  If I called a few smart colleagues from Wharton, those lads have formulas and models that would suggest every tax payer in the USA should be getting a check a month like the Emirati and Kuwaiti from a sovereign wealth fund

You go into politics for wealth and power, not to help people.  As inflation rapidly goes UP, the dumbing down of the American brain increases too
