Not really. Unless the beard is completely natural and only trimmed with scissors to maintain a desired length, it will have to be shaved with a razor to keep it within its boundaries.

Hello,

This is Andrew from Hone. I have just read this thread, thank you for all the comments they are a good insight. And thank you to Scott 'The Clean Shaver' for taking the time to reach out and being a lovely person to interact with.

I understand the comments about the opportunity for bias and I'm sorry my decision to offer the razor was taken that way, it was not my intention to muddy the water. As an individual and a small producer getting exposure is tough, and finding people that are genuine and passionate is not as easy as it seems.

As you can see I did attempt to put the razor on Kickstarter which was unsuccessful, but I continued to develop the project and funded it personally by maintaining my full time job. The cost is where it is because batch manufacturing complex surfaces with CNC take a lot of machining time.

A bif of backgrond about my self, I am currently a Lead Industrial Designer for one of the worlds biggest medical equipment suppliers, I have experience designing and delivering surgical equipment for heart surgery, critical medication delivery, and life support systems....I do sport a beard sometimes, but this does not mean I have never used my product; on the contrary I understand the full paradigm of maintaining facial hair involving cleaning up edges, maintaining a top lip, and trimming hair longer than you should with a razor, in addition to also going clean shaven. I just happen to like a beard in the winter.

If there are any questions or comments I would be very happy to answer them. I look forward to talking to everyone more. Andrew.

I find it hard to believe that this is a serious comment.

I am serious. My analogy is goofy and I get that. But what I saw in the kickstarter video is a person who was promoting his razor and was obviously not using it to shave his own beard. That is the part I found off putting. Was he trimming his beard with it for the video? I would assume so now that he has explained that. I don't maintain a beard and am not interested in doing so and that's why I have my perspective.
Other than price and an initial reaction I had to the video commercial, I am glad to see the razor is still alive after the initial offering. Andrew has shown he has great skills in design because the Hone is very good looking. And I really like the choice of using bronze.

Hello, thanks for the welcome. I think this discussion perhaps goes some way to highlighting why I wished I hadn't gone the kick starter route to begin with. I like working behind the scenes, being the designer, and being judged on the outcomes rather than being personally judged, It is a fair point though, and one I take on the chin (excuse the weak pun) My cheeky side (these aren't intentional!) does immediately think that many of the finalists in the Barber Of The Year competition this year had beards though, and those boys know how to handle a razor Wink

Also, thank you for the comments about the design of the razor, I'm glad to be around too, its good fun to be able to share it with others. Just to pick up on the bronze comment, the final razor is actually made from brass for a few reasons which are to do with controlling the quality of the raw material.
