My wife is used to shaving with the GEM Feather Weight. She had a great shave with the OneBlade tonight. She did say that it felt different but couldn't really say how. She said it felt mild, but a little rough. We typically palm strop each new blade before use to make them smoother. This is something I've learned through years of SE usage. The blades typically feel rough for a shave or two & then smooth out. Her blade tonight was not stropped. My blade in the morning has already been stropped. This is why it blows my mind that so many people say these blades are done after 2 shaves. This is when I feel that they start to shine. I will see how these spineless blades fare for me in the OneBlade though. In a Valet AutoStrop or flip top GEM I could get 5-7 shaves at least and even remember hitting 10. Since then my blade longevity has drastically increased & I hope that carries over to the OneBlade & it spineless sharps.

I agree.  I use shorter strokes with my vintage Schick and Pal.  Same with the OneBlade or Cobras.

Good advice.

SharpSpine, I have been stropping both my SE and DE blades for years.  In fact, it's a habit now; I don't even think about it.  I do it just before placing the blade in the razor for each shave and no matter how many uses the blade has had.  However, it does not help with a Feather DE.  I get two excellent shaves and then the blade just dies.  Over the years I have found many superb blades and find that, for me at least, Feathers are just not the wunderkind of blades they are sometimes touted to be.

Also, I have tried the Feather SEs in my AutoStrop but did not enjoy the shave. That, however, I attribute more to the razor.  I have three different models of the AutoStrop and none offers me a comfortable shave.

I have to admit that I am in awe of the number of shaves you get from Feather blades. C'est la Vie. Winking

I agree with Freddy on the blade situation. With the OneBlade, I can only get two excellent shaves per blade. I am not complaining as I only use a blade twice, no matter which kind. But it is worth noting, and of course this is one of YMMV situation.

Hector, I usually get 6-7 shaves from my favorite blades so why would I pay a premium for Feathers? Today, I got a BBS shave with a third use Personna Medical Prep in a 1966 Lady Gillette, a pretty mild razor. Smile

I get it Smile   I only use Feathers with the OneBlade and with the Feather ASD2 razor.  With the DE, I found that I can get good shaves with the Feather razor only, go figure, and after a max of three uses, in the bin they go.

You are definitely getting good mileage of your blades Freddy. Happy2

Med Preps are one of my favorites.

Yes, I'm apparently some kind of blade whisperer when it comes to SE blades. GEM & Feather AC blades routinely give me 20+ shaves each (not counting the occasional did blade which usually dies around the 5th use).

In the past these spineless Feather blades would give me 7-10 good shaves. I have to admit though that none of my previous shaves from these blades were near as nice as my shave this morning with the OneBlade.

I have to say, and I mean it in a good way, the OneBlade is the most stupid proof razor I have ever used. I can't cut myself even if I mean it, lol.....

Hector, I sometimes think that the reason I get 6-7 uses from a lot of blades is because I am that "average" skin and beard type that Gillette and Schick go after.  Their advertising never mentions different skin and hair types as it used to when they marketed Superspeeds with different color tips or adjustables to take those situations into account.

I agree with you about the Med Preps as they definitely rank very high with me, as well. Smile

I understand your analysis. I don't have a coarse beard, which helps to achieve good shaves in two passes without killing my skin. This is when a razor like OneBlade shines IMO.

My top three blades are Kai, Med Preps, and Silver Blues. Kai's been my favorite.

My beard is so coarse that I can't use any DE blade. Yet the Feather spineless blades gave me a BBS in 2 passes like my Mongoose. Biggest question now is how long will the blade last for me.
