After inspecting the razor & blade interface while inserting a blade I found the weak point in the design. This makes me smile because it is also the weak point for many vintage SE razors as well.

Blade Stops

I was able to get the edge of the blade to ride over one of the blade stops upon inserting the blade. This unleveling of the blade can make any shave rough & inefficient. It is easily overlooked so I wonder how many times this has already happened to people.

I look forward to tomorrow's shave. My wife will actually be the first to use it tonight. I think this could be a great ladie's razor so I really want to hear her opinion on it.

SharpSpine, I agree, it really will be good to get a lady's perspective on this, as well as other shaving products that can be used by both men and women.

Tiffanyanne Kosma (The Razor Queen) did a write up (the first link is to her blog) and youtube video on the OneBlade that was linked to as part of mantic59's (Sharpologist) article:

Apparently, she didn't have a very good first shave with it. Mantic recommended she use shorter strokes, and after she got a much better shave. (Guys, shorter stokes with the OneBlade is also best to use on the face to get the best performance.)

I have no comment from my wife, as I haven't let her use it...  Tongue  .... except to say, she loves the result on my face!  Winking

Shorter strokes for SEs in general is what I recommend to anyone using a SE.

My wife is used to shaving with the GEM Feather Weight. She had a great shave with the OneBlade tonight. She did say that it felt different but couldn't really say how. She said it felt mild, but a little rough. We typically palm strop each new blade before use to make them smoother. This is something I've learned through years of SE usage. The blades typically feel rough for a shave or two & then smooth out. Her blade tonight was not stropped. My blade in the morning has already been stropped. This is why it blows my mind that so many people say these blades are done after 2 shaves. This is when I feel that they start to shine. I will see how these spineless blades fare for me in the OneBlade though. In a Valet AutoStrop or flip top GEM I could get 5-7 shaves at least and even remember hitting 10. Since then my blade longevity has drastically increased & I hope that carries over to the OneBlade & it spineless sharps.

Brian, could you give precise instructions on how you go about this? Or possibly have any videos to share with palm stropping SE blades?

Also, do you strop before each shave?

I'd love to experiment with this technique, especially if it can dramatically increase the life of the blade and/or get an even better shave!

That's funny - I do the same but just a few laps on some old denim Smile

Len, the video you requested is below. The frequency I use is to strop a fresh blade only and then I don't touch the blade again until it is time to change it. At least that is what I do with the GEM SS PTFE & Feather AC blades. These blades may require more stropping given how short a lifespan they seem to have.
