Tatara Nodachi Ti Passaround - Titanium Makes a Shocking Improvement

Tatara Nodachi Titanium shave #2 went so well, that in fact made me place my order.

That's impressive. Calm_Shaver are there any other razors that you would compare this to? Reading this thread and seeing the Black Friday discount has me seriously considering pulling the trigger on this razor.

Best way I can describe its unique feel and shave characteristics, … is it feels as smooth as Charcoal Goods LvL2 but with the added efficiency of Lvl3. You need a very light touch as it mows everything down. Very effective while somehow maintaining its smoothness.. this was no impulse buy as I know my razors inside & out and I know what I like. Also my  Blutt 1.20 comes to mind, just as smooth but Nodachi is more efficient. You have blade feel with the Tatara Ti Nodachi, but predictable and the razor blade feel lets you know where you are at all times. Hope this helps somewhat. Very reasonable price with Black Friday sale.

Review of Open Comb Ti Nodachi… What a beautiful shave. The Oc took down my growth like a katana. Super efficient and very smooth. One of the smoothest oc i tried to date. Wish I ordered this too with my Sb ti Nodachi. Next year hopefully. 

With the grain knocked down most of my growth. Across the grain i felt the edge but not menacing like R41, actually it is deceptively efficient. I was done after 2 passes, NO PICKUPS, I repeat no pickups, crazy that it got it this smooth without the added work. Only ti Bird and my High gapped Wolfmans get this close and with this comfort level. The PolSilvers shine in this razor and is my blade of choice. Crazy good razor. Extremely impressive. I love the Nodachi Ti now as much as my Blackbird Ti. I’m sad to see it go, it will be missed until my Nodachi arrives from Portugal. 

As I do it often i push my Bbs boundaries. Here we go on 3rd pass, Against the grain. It was a breeze, quick strokes with removing just lather, but it did feel smoother. Thanks DanLaw for setting up this pass-around, Gj! Shipping it out tomorrow.

I don’t know how there can possibly be any improvement over the shaves I’m getting from the SS Nodachi. Before I got it, I thought I was getting great results from my Yates 921-H but the Nodachi blows the Yates out of the water.

Thinking the Ti version improves on that? Breaks my brain.

Find the Ti Nodachi has a softer face feel than the SS and if used in a disciplined manner without added pressure, yields an even smoother shave.

This from a person generally preferring heavier razors such as Cu to Ti. But the Ti really works in this instance

First two shaves with the Ti Nodachi - so far so good.  Excellent BBS result with little to no irritation.  I used the Astra SP in Shave #1 and RK Chromium in Shave #2 (my go to blade). 

Very easy to use with great efficiency.  I’ve only used the SB plate so far.  Actually never used an OC so this will be a good experience for the next couple of shaves. 

The shave feel is different than my Timeless Ti 95. Difficult to explain but the Ti Nodachi feels more efficient - like a squeegee on my skin.  Timeless Ti is ‘smoother’ but not better if that makes sense.  I have yet to find a razor that can easily take down my trouble spot on my jawline, right side of my face.  

The weight of the Ti Nodachi is perfect.  They is really an excellent razor.

I have owned a Muramasa, Masamune and Masamune Nodachi in SS.  I was lucky enough to have spent time with the Ti Nodachi SB (I never needed the open comb).  

The weight difference in the head does allow for less pressure for myself.  Less pressure means efficient without irritation in my case.  

The razor is more nimble and forgiving.  My neck and jawline experienced excellent results without having nicks or ingrown hairs (which is a very difficult task with my skin). 

If you are fortunate enough to have skin that would allow you to shave against the grain with a Mach3 or cartridge razor, this might not be the quantum leap for you.  But if your skin is at least slightly sensitive and you enjoy a smooth, super efficient shave, this razor in Ti is half the price of a Wolfman WR1 and inline with a BB Ti and I enjoy it a lot.

Candidly, it is in a different league than many of the Ti razors I own or have owned. The fit and finish, the machining (and Ti is harder to machine than SS), it is really a special razor by the year 2022 standards.

Having taken a few engineering courses, no razor is more conforming to engineering standards in its design. One can tell Tatara has a lot of engineering talent in its management team.
