I figure the time is right for this thread. I’m not trying to start any arguments or pitches for or against any particular brands. Do you just pick the soap based on your experience, a recommendation, or scent curiosity/preferences?
Just a Yes or No.
I’ll start.
No.

No. I don't care which I use as long as it is a great soap. However, my preference, heavily, leans towards tallow.

If the question is tallow vs, vegan, my answer is no. If the question is "Do you just pick the soap based on your experience, a recommendation, or scent curiosity/preferences?"--the answer is yes.

The main question is that in the past, it appeared that many of us simply dismissed a non-tallow soap and didn’t even give the other factors mentioned above a chance.

No, I don’t care if a soap has tallow or not.

In general, it does seem like tallow has some properties that are beneficial for my skin. That being said, I have used some non-tallow soaps that are superb. It really comes down to the soap as a whole, not just the one ingredient (or lack thereof).

No. I pick soaps/creams based on previous experience with a vendor's product. My top preference is scent, followed by performance (slickness, skin protection and lather ability). A few times I have ordered a product based on forum reviews and vendor website reviews. Tallow or Vegan has never been a factor for me.
