Razor: Tatara Nodachi
Brush: Zenith 24mm Boar
Soap: McDuff’s - Badlands
Aftershave balm: 345 - Fresh Cut Fade
Blade: Feather

New razor in the Den, and wow, it delivered in spades. Very smooth feel, very efficient, plenty aggressive and of course high-quality. I want more shaves with it before I start saying this is the best thing since sliced bread, but it sure seems like it! I saw several reviews online that compared it to a Blackland Blackbird, yet smoother. I own a Blackbird and that seem like a solid analogy to me.

Here’s some pics:

Super images! That's a good looking instrument!

Thanks Bryan!

I splurged last year and got both a Tatara Nodachi and a Blackbird on Black Friday.  Since then, I have used the Blackbird 5 times and the Tatara Nodachi 27 times.  Between the two, the last 22 shaves have been with the Tatara.  That should tell you something, and what it should tell you is that I get every bit as much performance with the Tatara with way more smoothness and comfort than the Blackbird.

Awesome Mike. That speaks volumes. Thanks for your personal feedback on the Tatara!

I only wish I had ordered this razor earlier, but I was always a bit confused on the model naming. So glad I got the aggressive one (Nodachi)… which doesn’t feel uncomfortable at all, but boy is it highly efficient!

It’s worth noting that you can interchange all the parts on the 2 Tatara models for desired blade gap and blade exposure:

That is a masamune handle in the picture; nodochi is a lot longer; fatter and the dimples don’t go all the way down.  I have heard they are fun to mix and match  - I am looking forward to trying that.

Yes, I got the shorter handle. The Nodachi handle would be too long for me. I did get the Nodachi top cap and baseplate though.

Razor: Blackland Blackbird OC
Brush: Semogue 610 Boar
Soap: A&E Cannabliss Santal
Aftershave: La Toja
Blade: Feather

New razor in the Den. First use… wasn’t exactly the smoothest ride I’ve ever taken. It was aggressive and efficient with a whole lotta blade feel. I’m going to try a tamer blade next time.

Gotta run to Church. Later Dudes

Razor: Tatara Nodachi
Brush: Semogue TSN LE Boar
Soap: Los Jabones de Joserra - Rodrigo de Jerez
Aftershave: Lucky Tiger
Blade: Perma-Sharp

Nice evening shave yesterday. The Nodachi razor is clearly a winner and shaves so fast and smooth... emphasis on smooth. It's certainly on the aggressive side with some decent blade feel, but at no point uncomfortable. I wholeheartedly agree with the reviews that say its like a smoother Blackland Blackbird, as it has the same level of aggression, blade feel, etc... just smoother and more of a joy to use (at least for me).

On the brush front, I'm very happy to get a Semogue TSN LE Boar back in the Den. I sold mine a few years back to Rob in moment of poor judgment, and started missing it immediately after I shipped it off! I must sincerely thank Alex ANG69 for selling me his. It's my favorite boar brush with a great knot/handle.

Los Jabones de Joserra - Rodrigo de Jerez is a sweet tobacco scent and well done. Performance is elite.

Have a great Tuesday Friends.

Is that the knot you were thinking about having as an option for your handles?
