I purchased a soap lot the other day and a nearly new tub of Tcheon Fung Sing - "Soap Opera" was in the box. I have heard of this company but never tried their products. You also don't see much about them on the forums... at least I don't. Scent was very enjoyable and quite light. I get a soft, clean, soapy sandalwood. Hard to pick much else out since its so light. This soap is soft, I guess you'd call it a croap. It lathered very easily and quickly. Great cushion and protection from the blade forward "Dart". Not the super gooey lather we see from many of the latest and greatest artisan soap makers, but also not foamy and held together well for a 4-pass shave. The lather reminded me a lot of MDC. Its a veggie soap and a darn good one.

Producing vegetable oil based shaving soaps and importing Solingen made razor blades, the company was named Tcheon Fung Sing after its founder. Born in China, he emmigrated to Italy in 1930 where he married an Italian woman who helped establish the company during those fledgling days.

1951 saw the first major success for the company, as they won the Gold Medal for shaving products at the inaugural Turin Fair.

As production of shaving soap continued through the decades, Tcheon Fung Sing passed the reins to his daughter Gabriella Tcheon, and subsequently his granddaughter Paola Barile who makes the soaps today.

Since its inception, TFS has respected the ancient art of soap production, using only vegetable based materials. The longevity of those soaps, produced without preservatives, is guaranteed by the handmade production process.

Nice shave, Paul! 

I have a tub of TFS-Red that I picked up when was just starting out. The price point attracted me as The Razor Company had it for $6. It has strong similarities to Cella; red tub, croap, and the marzipan scent...but it is vegan while Cella is tallow. I've had really good results lathering with it and agree with your assessment...a darn good soap!

You definitely don't see a lot of them, especially 'on this side of the pond'. From what I understand (if it's true), TFS makes the soaps for some other companies including Razorock, Panta Rei, and possibly the new iteration of Fine Soaps.

I believe Bouki has a (few?) favorite of theirs. My memory is fuzzy, but I recall an Italian brush/plant. Darn, getting old bites! Lol.

The Vespers sample arrived and I was anxious to try not only this scent, but also the latest and greatest B&M base "Omnibus". For the last few years, I've been ordering a B&M Festive/Seasonal sample around Christmas. Hey, its cheap entertainment for me!

Scent on this one is clearly cranberry forward, but also has some other notes playing in the background. I picked up on some sweet Christmas cookie, green notes and some clean soapyness It's a well done scent and I think most would really like it.

The soap base did seem "different" than "Excelsior" which I'm use to. My initial impression (after only one use) is that its a bit more refined lather... a slight, yet noticeable improvement. Post shave was excellent. This is a winner all around.

Happy Friday Guys. Been a darn long week for me at the Refinery. I'm ready for a Tallboy Rainier and some time out in the shop this weekend! Who knows, I might just turn some handles

Trying my best to warm up to my new Dragonsbeard set. This time was a little better than the last go. It is a very nice soap base, I think my main hang up is the awkward plastic tub. It seems like the same tub Caties Bubbles uses, where the top diameter is small, tub is tall and the soap is sorta hard to get to.

The scent is unique and somewhat complex. I can see why people like, but I guess, this isn’t what I hoped/thought it would be. Hey, just my personal opinion! No disrespect to the wonderful brand and Frank. I had my Wife smell the soap and splash and she was not a fan either I’m afraid. I’m going to keep using it and we’ll see how it goes. When I first bought Tabac years ago, I disliked the scent, but over time it strangely grew on me to the point I actually love it today. Maybe that could happen with Dragonsbeard?

The post-shave with the soap and splash are truly excellent. One of the absolute best in this category. I will say the splash has a “strange” feel/sting when I first throw it on, but that fades rather quickly. Any other Ethos users notice that? Dave, Mike? I believe Ethos uses cane sugar alcohol… perhaps that might be why?

I do get a mild, brief burn from the ETHOS SFSs - including my older version of the Dragonsbeard SFS - but after that, it's skin nirvana for me.  BTW it so happens that a tub of the current Dragonsbeard soap arrived on Friday.  After shaving with it, I will trade notes with you for whatever they're worth.
