Freddy, I would render the fat out first. That means fry it and dump the fat. Then have the rest of the can over a few months. I get 14 slices from a can. If I was eating it alone that would last me 7 weeks, so I'd freeze it. If there is a genetic history of heart disease in your family the sodium could also be a problem. I have put myself on a super restrictive fat (and sodium) diet and my last blood test gave me numbers that others would kill to have or so my Dr told me (43/72, LDL/HDL). No, that wasn't a typo.
If your family has a history of heart disease do NOT assume you're good, get a stress test, but ask your Dr for what he suggests. I don't write this not to single you out Freddy, but for others reading this and not in the member spotlight. We only have one heart so it's sort of necessary. I was told I was good to go since I didn't know that I had a genetic predisposition and couldn't inform my Dr. . How wrong that was ! 3 brothers and all of us had bypass surgery within 3 months. Kinda makes one believe in genetics. I care and that's why I bare my soul. I normally live a far more private life.
All indicators appear to be good for me now and I assume I'm out of danger, but no one wants to go through what I was put through and will continue to go through for the rest of my life. Therapy ends 10-12 years before ones death if one resumes the same diet. D: I have changed my diet and my activity level so I'll probably live forever.

It's not just your heart that will thank you. If you have high blood pressure and it goes untreated, it can do damage to your kidneys. Regular physical exams are essential.
Phil, you know that I keep myself on a very strict diet. But since I made 3 loaves of classic white bread today tomorrow has 2 slices of thin toast for breakfast, one slathered with tub margarine and the other dry. Except the dry slice will have 2 eggs on it with runny yolks. I also intend 2 slices of fat rendered thin slices of SPAM.
FWIW, I added just shy of 3 cups of vital wheat gluten to the bread flour (9 cup mix for 3 loaves). That gives the loaves a wonderful flexiblity and the slices don't break apart when used for sandwiches.

Dang, ShadowsDad, PhilNH5, and MsBlackwolf, there goes the neighborhood. Over the last few years, my area has had some very nice traditional or trendy restaurants and bistros move in.
I was walking this morning and was several blocks from my flat when I spotted this outrage.
Obviously, I'm just teasing you folks but you were exactly who I thought of when I saw this.
