From what I understand, at least the initial demand took Stan by surprise. In addition to the lower price, I like the idea of a light DE razor (but not necessarily Bakelite light).

Clint, if you have a chance — can you tell if the screw post on the Calypso razor top cap is also aluminum? (I like how on the AlumiGoose, which of course is an aluminum SE, the screw post is stainless steel, which may increase its longevity.)

I too have an V1 AlumiGoose with the SS screw so I understand the question. The Calypso screw is machined as part of the top cap. It is the same 7075 aluminum and hard anodized. I am hopeful that using 7075 aluminum and hard anodizing does give it some extra strength. However, only time will tell.

The ATT Calypso R1 razor is an aluminum version of the ATT R1 stainless razor.  It is machined out of 7075 aircraft grain aluminum and then anodized.  The color in person is much darker than it appeared on the ATT website.  As expected with an aluminum razor, the Calypso is very light weighing in at 40 grams.  Overall the machining of the razor is up to the standards expected of ATT products.  The CH2 synthetic whipped up the MdC Fougere into a mountain of lather.  When properly hydrated, I find MdC to be more than slick enough.  I truly enjoy the Fougere scent.   Loaded the razor with a new Feather blade for the maiden voyage, I went with a traditional 3 pass shave, WTG, XTG and ATG followed by touch ups in my usual trouble spots.  The shave ended in a smooth irritation free near BBS shave.  Once I became accustomed to the light weight the Calypso was a joy to use.  The Calypso is just a lighter and less expensive version of the ATT R1 stainless razor.  Overall I am very pleased with the razor.  I finished off the shave with a splash of Fine Lavender.  I hope everyone has a great Monday.

Great review amigo! Happy2 Love the new razor. It sounds like a winner!

My usual 3 pass shave, but without a cleanup. This brush is simply amazing. Fits my hand perfectly and whips up an outstanding lather. DFS.

Thanks again, Clint, I appreciate it. Sounds as if with some basic care, the razor should last just fine.

Rainbow/Gillette Silver Blue blade
Jayaruh #85 brush
CO Bigelow SC
Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe
Skin Bracer A/S w/added menthol

Started with the Rainbow blade in the Parker but the first stroke told me to change the blade so I grabbed a GSB and proceeded to have a wonderful Monday shave. I also find it amazing that the CO Bigelow SC never, ever fails to give a great lather and help in any combo I try. I could use it exclusively but I'm not. To many other nice products to try. Anyway, I'm ready to go do the "honey-do" list. Now go enjoy your day folks.

Ginger's Garden Argan creams are legit. I got very thick and slick lather with plenty of residual slickness for a superb shave. I also love this scent. The aftershave is cooling and very moisturizing.
