The ATT Calypso R1 razor is an aluminum version of the ATT R1 stainless razor.  It is machined out of 7075 aircraft grain aluminum and then anodized.  The color in person is much darker than it appeared on the ATT website.  As expected with an aluminum razor, the Calypso is very light weighing in at 40 grams.  Overall the machining of the razor is up to the standards expected of ATT products.  The CH2 synthetic whipped up the MdC Fougere into a mountain of lather.  When properly hydrated, I find MdC to be more than slick enough.  I truly enjoy the Fougere scent.   Loaded the razor with a new Feather blade for the maiden voyage, I went with a traditional 3 pass shave, WTG, XTG and ATG followed by touch ups in my usual trouble spots.  The shave ended in a smooth irritation free near BBS shave.  Once I became accustomed to the light weight the Calypso was a joy to use.  The Calypso is just a lighter and less expensive version of the ATT R1 stainless razor.  Overall I am very pleased with the razor.  I finished off the shave with a splash of Fine Lavender.  I hope everyone has a great Monday.

Thanks so much for the informative description of that aluminum razor. All I need now is for Stan to come out with the Aluminum SE1. Then I'm in business.

Yes — thanks, Clint, for telling us about this razor and posting your photo. This was the first user experience I had read about it, and the razor truly looks darker than it does on the ATT website.

"Club Humidor" doesn't smell like a humidor, but rather the classy fragrance of a man who would frequent one. While there are some aromatic cedar and cured tobacco notes, there's enough citronella, leather, and amber to round out this cologne-type scent. If you enjoy the this fragrance, like I do, you'll want to pick up the matching splash which has nice staying power for an alcohol-free splash.

Thank you guys. I am not the best at writing reviews so I am glad it was helpful. I think Stan will have a winner with the aluminum line. It allows one to own and enjoy the ATT quality at a more approachable price. An aluminum SE2 would certainly be enticing to me.

From what I understand, at least the initial demand took Stan by surprise. In addition to the lower price, I like the idea of a light DE razor (but not necessarily Bakelite light).

Clint, if you have a chance — can you tell if the screw post on the Calypso razor top cap is also aluminum? (I like how on the AlumiGoose, which of course is an aluminum SE, the screw post is stainless steel, which may increase its longevity.)

Prep - Noxzema / Hot towel
Pre shave - Proraso
Razor – Weber ARC
Blade – Gillette Silver Blue
Brush - New Forest Tubby 1 Finest
Soap – Maggard's - Tobacco & Leather
Post - Witch Hazel, Trevarno Revitalising Face Oil

A wonderfully smooth shave with the Weber ARC/Gillette Silver Blue (2nd use), and the Maggard's - Tobacco & Leather was faultless, but then again, it is made by Through the Fire Fine Craft, another soap that I have stellar results with...
