I've got the Talbot Shaving soap, latest version I think, Island in the Sun. Great post shave on this one, long lasting.

For me, Grooming Dept Mallard has the best post shave. Only one soap in the new Mallard base as been released. That was the Amore scent exclusive to West Coast Shaving for Valentine's Day. The post shave is so good that I can still feel it 24 hours later. I have ten soap bases that I can still feel 16 hours after the shave, but Mallard lasts longer than any of the others.

My favorites so far for post-shave would be:
  1. Mystic Water
  2. Barrister & Mann
  3. Stirling
  4. WSP Formula T
  5. Cooper & French

Updates

  1. Murphy & McNeil
  2. Mystic Water
  3. Barrister & Mann
  4. WSP Formula T
  5. Stirling

The best post-shave feel soap I have tried is the Nuavia line from PannaCrema (too bad I am among the few who don’t care for any of their scents).

Next tier would be these three:

Tallow + Steel
SV 4.3
ETHOS

I agree with you guy about Ethos post shave, very nice!
I've still not tried Mammoth or Oaken Labs.

After 20 plus years of wet shaving nothing has given me a better Post Shave feel than ETHOS

That's really saying something about ETHOS.

I love soaps & I love scents. And to be honest, as long as they provide a good amount of protection, glide and residual slickness, I can make due with post shave products such as moisturizers, splashes/balms and serums. There’s plenty of them out there with more than enough skin food and protective ingredients to satisfy even the most skeptical amongst wet shavers. However, in the past year and a half to two, I have been on the lookout for soaps that can potentially offer post shave benefits that carry quality ingredients that carry over from the shave exercise/ritual.

I was a big fan, HUGE of Grooming Dept soaps for a good while having bought at least one of every base (sometimes purchasing a few extra tubs as back ups if the base & scents really were to my liking) that was produced from this artisan and all were excellent performers from soup to nuts. Lusso, Janus, Nai, Kairos, Lamb, Duck Fat (Mallard), I’ve tried them all but, there was one perhaps two that arose above the rest for me from the GD house. Angel in the Lamb & Laundry in the combination of Duck, Donkey & Lamb base. Those two for me had the perfect balance of lather creation that was full yet light and still managed to offer excellent slickness, comfort and glide galore. And post was top notch. The feel wasn’t as heavy as the rest of the others and those two just left my face on point after the shave. I thought the pinnacle had been reached for soap performance during and post shave. There are a couple of others that ran right with Grooming Dept. and for me they are just as good but, they are not talked about as much. One is Shannon’s Soaps & the other is Lisa’s Natural Herbal Creations. These two ladies make some amazing quality soaps that I consider to be top level performers as well though, with Lisa’s I prefer her Original Premium Artisan soap from her first release with her face (the deadly shave eyeballs) as those for me have been the best that I have used from this soap artisan.

Done right? No, then came along this guy….

Ethos Grooming Essentials. For me and I speak only for me, this has been The Gamechanger and has literally supplanted the previously three mentioned soap artisans as the elite of the elite when I want a soap that can give me skin caring and fortifying results shave after shave after shave. No heaviness on post, a supple, hydrated and healthy feeling/look that is practically unmatched. I can’t get enough of this stuff, seriously. Don’t get me wrong, I still use other soaps (well, I got rid of nearly all of my GD tubs that were extras about 12 but, kept the Angel & Incense&Rose soaps), Shannon’s, Lisa’s, Stirling, Wholly Kaw, B&M, WSP and a couple of others that escape me and believe me they all work well for a great shave and additionally I just love the scents that some of these soap artisans produce, they’re great.

But, a previous poster here whom I think was ExtraProtein said it best, “deserted island soap, it’s Ethos.” I’ve never agreed more with a statement in wet shave land than with this one. For me it’s simply the best soap out, period……
