The main difference...Sir Henry's are all original scents to us.
Black Tie Razor Co. has scents in the line that would be considered "homages". i.e. BTRC Sandalwood is an homage to AOS Sandalwood.

So the Sir Henry's Sandalwood and Black Tie Sandalwood are different scents?
Yes. Sir Henry’s is our original Sandalwood scent.
Black Tie Razor Company Sandalwood is an homage to AOS Sandalwood.

Could you advice on how the scents are different... is the E.Os for both sourced differently or the E.O mix is different?
Thank you

My First 2025 Surprise: Sir Henry's Shave Products

Based upon reviews and recommendations by Dave Dave in KY and TommyCarioca, I decided to buy some Sir Henry's products at the Wet Shaving Store's year end sale.  I was hoping to get a set of Kentucky Rain and Sandalwood.  The store had Sandalwood soap and Kentucky Rain AS.  I, therefore, went with those two products.

Soap:  I bowl lather, and the soap had just the right firmness to allow me to easily spread it on the bottom of the bowl.  The texture was closer to a hard soap, which is a plus in my books.  It had a nice sandalwood scent.  Based upon a review I read, I was expecting it to be a strong sandalwood. To me, it was more softer.  I scooped my standard amount and used a Muhle STF 25mm synthetic brush.  I was blown away by the ease and quality of lather the soap produced within 15-20 seconds.  It exploded into a rich, creamy lather almost instantaneously.  I dipped the tip of my brush only once and had enough outstanding lather for two shaves.  The lather was thick and provided excellent cushioning.  It also had excellent residual slickness.  Shaving was a breeze with this soap and the Oliblade with a sharp accuthrive blade.  I had no issues or complaints whatsoever.

Aftershave: I enjoy AS containing or is primary based upon witch hazel.  Kentucky Rain AS falls right in line with my preference and was very soothing.  The scent was especially AMAZING!!  My not so great sense of smell picked up the rose, bourbon and leather--what a combination!  The AS had some legs and lasted a few hours.  I definitely plan on getting the matching soap.

Overall: I definitely enjoyed the soap and AS and had an excellent shave today.  The tallow based soap is first-class, and one of the easiest soaps to lather.  The Kentucky Rain fragrance is exceptional and a must try (own for me).  Great job dominicr!

You nailed the soap description as I find this to be one of the slickest and easiest to lather pux out there. Dom has several other winners in his inventory. Great find for you!  Lipripper got me on the SH train in 2021!

my first Sir Henry's shaving soaps have arrived! Wow! They scents are really good, even dry. I'm curious about the scents when lathering.

Thank you dominicr

The Sir Henry Black Velvet, my first Sir Henry's shaving soap, has a beautiful and honest scent of black pepper and vetiver. It is a masculine and elegant fragrance and has a fresh and clear character. The fragrance is not overpowering, but pleasantly restrained and reminiscent of high-quality European perfumes.

The soap lathers up effortlessly and willingly. The gliding properties are flawless, with a perfect cushion and very good ghost lather. It mastered the challenge with the Futur brilliantly. The shave without cuts and nicks.

The aftercare of the shaving soap is also excellent! My skin is bright and smooth. Very nice.

Thanks for this tip my dear forum fellows and many thanks to dominicr

I'm happy you enjoyed it. Both our veggie and tallow bases remain unchanged going on about 7 years. We don't need to tinker.
At the time when I developed Black Velvet, I was unaware of any scent combining vetiver and black pepper.

I only have the tallow based soap, and it is fantastic.  I should have also picked up a veggie based soap to compare the two different formulas like Spectredid.  I am definitely interested in seeing what he thinks of the tallow based soap.  dominicr there is definitely no reason to change your tallow based soap.  It is exceptionally easy to make a perfect lather.

Agreed.

I prefer the non-tinker artisans.... Base staying stable equates to reliability. Moreover, keeping the scent library available is preferred. LJDJ... Nice soaps but they are all different.... Not hard to dial them all in, but subtle differences are noticeable. These principles are what made the old triple milled soaps so apoealing. You find something you like, you can get and count on it - scent and base. Sir Henry's biz model is common sense genius - predicated of course on great product and fair pricing.
