I have been de shaving going on 4 years now and am now interested in single edge. Are the feather artist blades a good option. I know from double edge shaving everyone has their favorite blade, just trying to get a little advice.

I would say that trying SE depends on what you are comfortable with in regard to new or used.

As wyze0ne suggested, Gem SE would be a good chance to try SE for a fairly low entrance fee for a used vintage GEM, Ever-Ready, Star, or etc. There still are no new production GEM-style razors available, yet, although I believe Colonial Razors and Rocnel have stated that they would eventually venture into that market. The same would go for vintage injectors, with the exception of the Supply Provision Co. The Single Edge, which is currently being produced, although on a pre-order basis now.

As to your original question regarding the Feather AC style razors. There are several options now and actually offer a number of blade options and blade manufacturers now. Most of these current production razors are more expensive than the previously mentioned vintage options.

I have the AlumiGoose 2 and the ATT SE1. I have only tried the Feather AC ProGuard, Pro, and Pro Super so far in blades for these razors. I find the Feather AC blades to be at least as sharp as their Feather DE blade counterparts, except in a wider and more rigid form. Everyone has their own personal preferences in these blades. There are also blades available for this style razor from the makers of Kai Captain(in various versions) and from the maker Kamisori.

Good luck in your quest!

Thank you. I see Razorock is coming out with a single edge for $20, it maybe a nice, cheap way to try a single edge out

Yes, the RazoRock Hawk. I've been using GEMs almost exclusively for the last 6 months or so and the Hawk (when it comes out) will be my first foray into the Feather AC blade style razors. From there, who knows. If I like them I may pick a Mongoose, Colonial or ATT.

The RazoRock Hawk SE should be an excellent way to experience the Feather AC style razor when they come out. I'm on the notify list myself. The only concern I would have is the number produced and that they are sure to go quickly at $20USD. razorock has a history of making really good stuff at a reasonable price, so I expect these Hawk SE's to sell out. I believe this is the 1st razor taking the Feather AC blade selling for this low of a price.

Jasonaudy, do you have any interest in trying any of the vintage options for SE?

I'm waiting patiently for The Hawk as well.

Can't wait to see what all the SE Feather blade type razor hoopla is all about.

Likewise- Joe has been bringing it strong this season with razorock product releases. Very curious about Emperor and The Dead Sea soaps coming out shortly as well.
