Sights and/or scents that take you back

Todays shave consisted of TOBS Jermyn Street.The scent took me back a couple years,Jermyn St was my first true brush on product I had purchased in my wet shave journey.Doesn't get used much now a days but will always have a spot in my den.During my commute to work the scent caused me to reminisce a little more.Back to when I was 7 or 8 years old and discovered my grandfathers DE razor in the bathroom.I recall for some reason or another I would sneak a trial run with it.After all I had seen my father shave with his DE numerous times,I thought well let me give this a go.I got a nasty cut on my cheek that is still visable to this day for my efforts .Had a good chuckle realizing I had my first "weeper" before I had any sign of facial hair.

Stirling Ozark Mountain and Gatlinberg take me back to my childhood hikes in the Adirondacks. Ozark embodying the summer hikes, whereas Gatlinberg really takes me on those cold fall hikes.

Well that ol' Proraso brings me back to the first wet shave experience I had when I was 18. I still have my Omega 10066 that I first used as well. My goodness it is stupid soft now.

B&M Roam takes me back to working in my grandfather's hickory smoked ham business as a kid.

Pinaud Clubman brings me back to the barbershop I went to with my grandfather. I swear everybody in that place bathed in the **** lol.

Pinaud Clubman takes me back to weekends with my Aunt and Uncle. My Uncle Fred passed away several years ago, but he always wore Pinaud. Everytime I use it it reminds me of him...

Clubman reminds me of trips to the barbershop with my Granddad for sure. To me, the quintessential barbershop scent.

My wife really dislikes the scent but that's one that in non-negotiable. I just never use it on the weekends!

So I think the first scent that took me back was Dr Harris Windsor it reminded me of a cologne my dad used to wear when I was a child. As a child I didn't get to see my dad that often but being a daddies boy back then the smell was a comforting one.

It's a shame that no good artisan soap maker has recreated this scent. I am lucky that Fine make a good aftershave.

And the fact it was Windsor that reminds me of these times is strange because it is complete coincidence that my username starts with Windsor and that the place is a special place to me!

Clubman takes me back to 1950's Kenny's Barbershop with its large red-brown leather barber chairs, with engraved steel foot rests that my feet could never reach. Old Spice and Tabac shaving soaps remind me of my dad's bathroom in the 50's, with the Old Spice shaving mug, brush and his Gillette Red Tip near the sink. There were also the odors of Wild Root and Vitalis hair products and of Old Spice and Aqua Velva aftershaves, as well as a variety of Avon aftershaves in interestingly styled bottles, whose scents swirl around now only in faded memories. And Tabac. It takes me back to this morning's shave. It's good to know that no matter how much things change, some few things manage to stay the same.
