Thanks! That was my first effort at making micarta...I haven't really done a lot with micarta since, but that set came out decent...

I picked up this Frederick Reynolds 5/8 smiling wedge a few weeks ago from an estate sale. The scales were originally buffalo(presumably) horn, but they were long-ago broken and repaired with some form of adhesive and string. So I went ahead and honed it up, setting a bevel on a JNS Mutukusuyama 1k, and finishing it off with a Belgian coticule. Then I went ahead and cut and shaped these new scales from an acrylic blank, and VOILA!! A newly clothed, Frederick Reynolds 5/8 stub tail smiling wedge!

You may see that there is a particularly large area of hone wear near the toe. Someone exaggerated the smile by focusing on the toe too much in it's history, but I was able to hone it nicely using a couple layers of electrical tape. Test shave this evening will tell the truth...

This was a rescue from my working vacation in New England. A seven day set, ALMOST. Sunday will be a day of rest due to Sunday's razor is missing. A set from Friedmann & Lauterjung "Electric" straights. They are in as found condition, no cracks, splits or rust with modest grim. I passed on them several times due to the missing razor but the seller made me a deal I could not say no to.
