Shaving terms I don't like

RARE

When did a shaving soap become rare? It was discontinued and/or no longer made.  That 30 year old soap is not rare, and now it’s unscented

Rare is a .90 carat, Fancy Red Princess Shape Diamond, SI2 clarity, graded by GIA.  If it were available by Leibish, the cost would probably be 1.5-1.7 million easy.  Maybe 2-3 are found per year....maybe.  Those Argyle Diamond mines in Australia are on point with reds.

What about razors ?   

Now Razors, those are subjective....gold, platinum.  10 Ti BBS-1, those are rare to a collector.  I’m sure there are a few Gillette Razors in P&G’s archives that would earn a rare classification.  Mostly because of historical value.

I avoid using the word “aggressive” with respect to razors. I rarely understand what a writer means by it. I think some use it to say a razor feels harsh and rough on the skin, or that it frequently causes nicks. Others seem to mean that a razor has blade feel or high blade exposure. And some just mean the razor is efficient at cutting hair. I find it much more helpful when people describe clearly what they mean and what they experience.

Of course, razors are inanimate objects and they cannot exhibit aggression, which is anger, hostility, or a desire for confrontation. I can see why someone might imagine a razor is hostile towards them, but it isn’t. That would be paranoia.

I don’t mind all the use of “YMMV”. Yes, everything we say is our opinion, but it does no harm to remind ourselves that there are no objective truths in shaving, and it is probably better to be explicit about this rather than mislead anybody or assume we all take each others’ comments this way. I bought a Wolfman WR2 and I must say my mileage has varied a lot with this. I would have been less surprised about its performance for me if more commentators had caveated their exhilaration for this razor.

"Open the pores"/"Close the pores." - Nah. That's not a thing that pores can do.

"Cushion" and "glide" - What? Do you mean "slickness"?

"YMMV" - Everybody's likely to get similar performance or behaviour from a product, plus or minus a bit of variation depending on how it is used. e.g. Gas mileage can differ between city driving and highway driving. That's different from liking it or not liking it.
The expression is fine, I just think it's typically misused.
