For informational purposes, here is the new tub, with one almond-sized scoop taken out of it, just to get an idea of this cream.



I was snapping too fast and moved my hand as I turned my head to see what Sylvester was up to. My apologies for the blurring effect. It is not your eyes! But you can see that the texture is almost fluffy and airy. I do not believe you could lather from the tub without loading too much soap.

I believe it is best to scoop this cream!

I am glad you had a magical first shave with it.   I also find it phenomenal and you don’t need a lot to whip up a big lather.  

Brush loading would be way too much product for and wasteful.

Part 5: Type J Eversharp 500

There has been a downgrade in the Schick Shaving Show. Part 7 will occur during the last few days of March, and I noticed that I had shaved with the Type M adjustable for 7 days in mid-January, so the producer and I opted to cut the show short rather than be repetitive. In that spot will be a new to me vintage razor like no other I have.

Today the Type J Eversharp 500 was used for the first time by me. I acquired it on a trade, and it came cased and looking spectacular! (Many thanks, Dave in KY)


According to the Dummies Guides, and actual consulting the author, this Type J is a 1st variant, style 3 (short lever with no writing on it), made between 1954-'58.

The longer handled Type J's seem to trip me up sometimes, like I am getting the wrong angle. I think maybe it has something to do with where I hold the razor, compared to the shorter handled injectors. But I can adapt, what with having opposable thumbs and larger cranial capacity than most other mammals!



The other players in this Part of the Schick Shaving Show are the Trotter Supernova handle with an APSCo 24mm Independent fan (synthetic), Mystic Water Soap's Sensitive Skin (my favorite!) and a new Schick blade. Quite the wonderful shave!

Part 6: Type I Hydro-magic chrome/silver version



This Hydro-magic is a Type I, 2nd variant, style 1 with the chrome head, manufactured from 1958 - '61, according to the Dummies Guide. It was gifted to me by a very generous member here hailing from the Bluegrass State. Many thanks!! I find this version feels better on my face than the Eversharp 500 from the last part, and almost as comfy as the Type I 1st variant used earlier.

It has a Schick blade already in place with about a half dozen shaves on it, and I will be using a Semogue boar in the cherry Owner's Club handle, along with the Canada Shaving Soap.

The Septuple Schik Shaves will be interrupted later this week, as my turn is next in the Atelier Durdan La Faulx passaround and I anticipate that razor arriving by week's end. After using this AC-style razor for a few shaves, I will return the final part of my Schick Show, the Schick Golden 500.

Part 7: Schick Golden 500 



For the final part of the Schick Show, a circa 1959-'64 Schick Golden 500. Per the Dummies Guide, this is a 4th variant, style 1, with the long lever that has writing on it. I currently have four Hydro-magic razors, being composed of a Type I and Type J with the short lever (1954-'58) and the long lever (1958-'61 (Type I) or '64 (Type J)). I expected the pairings to be similar but was surprised to find them different. To my face, the short lever Eversharp 500 is the most aggressive, and the Type I ('54) and Type J ('58) shave almost the same, very carefree and easy. The Type I ('58) is pretty smooth, but not as smooth as the previously listed pair, but nowhere near as aggressive (or blade forward?) as that Eversharp 500 from ca. 1954. Odd, to say the least. But this has been fun and I am looking forward to both using the pictured 500 above for a few days and excited to move onto a different razor style altogether by the 30th or 31st!

Soap for the next 5 shaves will be the PAA CK-6 Scentsless, and the brush will be changing periodically as I compare the WW Poseidon's Lair badger to other brushes, including my favorite boar, the SOC cherry wood.

It may be remembered that this Schick Show started out being 8 parts. But the final razor (by year of manufacture) is a Type M adjustable, made between 1964-'66, making it as close as possible to being a "birth year" Schick for me. My Type M is as D2, H1, G1 by the appropriate Dummies Guide. The translation of the code is as follows: D2 is the adjuster dial with no black dot in the middle; H1 is the handle sticker labeled Schick Adjustable; and G1 is no guard protector level.



For comparison, I had this version, a D3, H3, G2, but found it just duplicated what I had, although it can take Schick Twin blades. But what I did like, is that this model had the Guard protecter lever, which made it almost impossible to cut your finger on the blade when the guard is used.


The guard lever is located on the underside of the razor, right below the metal head. In the above photo, it is "on" for shipping purposes.

One last vintage Schick ad to enjoy

Working with this unique razor for a few days, the Enders Speed Shaver. I received it on a trade and the Gentlman from KY included to different shims, which I call smaller and larger, being gifted with naming finesse. I may only get a couple of days in, as USPS if (finally) showing that the pass around La Faulx is due by 9PM tomorrow. Today's shave was with a new Schick Proline B-20 and the smaller shim. PAA Scentsless provided a marvelous lather, worked up by the Wolf Whiskers Poseidon's Lair badger brush.

Today I used the slightly longer shim and had an outstanding shave. This is one nice razor for the '40s into the early '50s, I believe.
