Chris did some outstanding plating for me on 4 of my vintage favorites.

First, my favorite open comb, the Gillette New long comb. This great razor came to me courtesy of Paul D, and I don't recall exactly why he chose to gift it to me. I do remember saying I wish I could try a comfortable open comb razor, and probably mentioned that I had a NEW short comb that I decked out in black chrome and copper at Delta Echo. To that point, Paul sent me the LC version so I could check it out and let me keep it! Here is a recent "before" photo of this razor, followed by the 24K gold replate (not a gold wash, so it should stay shiny for some years now!).

And my favorite (and only) Gillette Tech, the pre-War triangular lather slot version. Again, I had one from Delta Echo when I first got into DE shaving and in 2016 willfully jumped into the vintage Gillette rabbit hole. Then I read about the triangular lather slot version, found a good looking one and bought it. Practically a perfect razor for me. And a modern favorite of mine, the Karve Christopher Bradley, was modelled after the Tech. [Image: a0wbyIX.jpg]

My smoothest and most favorite GEM, a Damaskeene stamped GEM Cutlery on the back. This was gifted to me by Dave, and it is probably my favorite vintage razor. It is just so smooth and efficient for me.

And my next favorite, the Gem Junior with that beautiful handle! It was the handle that had always caught my eye, and then reports that it was "mild" sold me on this one. I do prefer the Damaskeene, but this is still a superb shaver for me.

And now the piggy bank is depleted and maybe even in the Red!

Gillette NEW long comb
Nacet (3)
Black Tie #13 and matching balm
Semogue 1305

A delightful shave this morning. I can't imagine myself saying that in 2015 before discovering the money sucking vacuum of traditional shaving!

Not seen in the photo was a travel scuttle and a cool barbershop plastic mug in which the brush soaked overnight, as it hadn't been used in months. So what, you say? Well, except for the brush and the blade, all the items listed came from the super enabler mrdoug! (I should have popped a Personna CC blade into the razor to make the shave even more expansive!) Paul, like many here, has been very generous to me, although I like to joke about enabling! Thanks, Paul!

G5C knot in Trotter Messier handle

A very nice shave with the re-plated Tech! The Gillette Slim is my cool gadget razor, the NEW long comb the golden boy, and the Tech is my every man's razor!

The knot confused me this morning (not hard to do most days!). The G5C knot looks and feels "looser" than the 5A but seemed "tight" while lathering; definitely doesn't splay like the SynBad! But it was comfortable, and I love that red Messier handle!

I really don't think this soap is going away, it is really holding the line! I loaded sooooo looonnnngggg that I had to be careful to fling lather by moving my hand too fast!

But it is a great soap, and I fully enjoyed the shave time this morning. My day started a bit earlier than intended with a minor clean up emergency, and afterwards the shave time was like a reward time!

And yup, I like the 5A better than the 5C as it is "looser" and more splayable, which is to my liking. I will be looking to replace the 5C as the Messier handle is just a beautiful reddish handle and I want to enjoy it more.

Happy Saturday!
