Ground Hogged yesterday's shave but added the straight. Sorry, no pic as I was working up my courage!   Nah, I've used it enough to be wary but not afraid. What I do need is to be uninterrupted and focused to make sure my nose and ears stay put and that I don't add a (hopefully dashing) scar!

This week saw the Tech and NEW long comb used 3 times each, with the Overlander thrown in early in the week. The Personna Comfort Coated blade held up for 7 great shaves. I won't push it so in the bin it goes later today. I am enjoying a vintage focus this month, starting with a couple of GEMs and now a week of Gillette. This coming week will focus on injectors, mostly the Type E Canadian and the Type G. I absolutely love the Type I but will hold it in reserve if the amber handle Type G is not to my liking. There is a thread somewhere on a shave site regarding shave items you were excited to get but that ultimately disappointed you. I am thinking the amber handle injector may fall into that category for me. I love the look and want so bad to have awesome shaves like my other Type G gives, but often I end up with irritation. This is my second amber handled Type G and so far it seems to behave just like the one I sold off last year. Ah well. #1stworldproblems. No one is shelling my town and I am not afraid to sit out under the stars alone, so stop my whining!

A mini stay-cation coming up this weekend. I took a couple of days off at the end of the week and with the company currently closing stores on Easter, made myself a 5-day stretch of down time! And my wife is feeling some better, so we may even go out to eat to celebrate birthday (hers), anniversary (our 15th), and that the weekly infusions are helping! As our buddy Tim says, Life is Good!

Continuing my fun participating in the Vintage April thread in another neighborhood, this week is Injector week! The primary razor will be what was listed on eBay as a Canadian Type G but is actually a Type E made in Canada. It gave a great shave on its first use and will do the duty this week.

Also making an appearance or two will be an amber-handled Type G. I had one a year ago and it was too harsh feeling. But after some time with more Schicks, I figured it was most likely my technique so I went on the hunt for another amber handle Type G, as I got rid of the "offender." The drama/saga of that hunt has been recorded here already. And the "new" amber handle Schick is still harsher than any other injector I have! I think the handle is so cool, and I want this to be a cool razor for me. But the harshness has me leaving it alone. I am not a collector, so if this doesn't work out I will have to give it some thought: keep it to look at and admire, or move it to a home where it will be used and enjoyed.

The brush is a Stubble Daddy Trotter Handcrafts creation with an apshaveco G5A synthetic knot. At first I thought the knot too stubby and scritchy. Paul (Stubble Daddy) mentioned setting it as high as possible and this helped some. But what really made the difference was a thread on B&B called In Absolute Awe of the new G5A. In this thread, user sterfry found that soaking a synthetic brush actually helped it perform better! And it works! I have been treating this brush like a natural hair brush and it works so well. It splays easier, there is no scritch, and it has just the right amount of backbone for me. If you have a G5A and haven't tried soaking it before using it, give this method a shot!

The Type E was perfect. I will try the amber Type G this week, but I plan to use the Type E most days as it was an efficient and oh so comfy shave!

I think I may have to leave the Hub City open on the counter. It seems to replenish itself if left closed up in the drawer with the other soaps. It is a great soap, but I am hankering to use something else! I have several new soaps to try for the first or second time, as well as some cream samples gifted to me (thanks, Mike!).

Feeling adventurous, I decided to use the amber handle Type G this morning. It went okay for half of the first WTG pass, but by the end, I needed to swap it out for the Canadian Type E. What gives with this G? Other Gs are efficient AND mild. As a said before, I love the look. But it may be moving to BSP box (hopefully got Tim's letters right on that! Sell or PIF are right!)

So the rest of the shave was Ground Hogged from yesterday.

Sorry the G is ending up being a nemesis for you Eric. I'm no professional on the models but I think there are eight different g models and maybe that Amber one you keep gravitating to is more aggressive than the others. Just the possibility.

It’s official. The Type G amber handle is moving to the STP box. 

But the Canadian Type E did well by me!

A quick note while I am thinking of it. I had to load a boar brush this morning after every pass! Paul mrdoug, I get it now! I loaded for 60 seconds before the first pass. As I was lathering for the second pass I realized it was too thin. Same thing for the third. Don't know if I ever experienced this before!

The culprit: an otherwise fine brush, the Proraso Omega boar knot.
