I might guess maybe a strop related buckle?
Someone may know or have seen that piece of brass used in its proper form.
I’d be curious to know as well.

I never heard of such a thing, but I am very ignorant regarding straight razors.

I was thinking that is what it was and was googling it but couldn't find ANY pics or confirmation. They sometimes called them Transitional Straights. Regardless a cool piece ! Here's an example below.

Nice! If I were ever to try a straight, I would want some sort of training wheel like that.

As mentioned in the Acquisitions thread, this arrived today, along with some of Rod's Brazil bean medium roast coffee. As a bonus, the this boar had no animal smell! The bowl is very inexpensive and collapsible. I think those large bumpy peaks will really help break in boars. That was the plan!

Here is an action shot of the boar being broken in. In the back ground, you can see a  bar of Dove Sensitive, which is unscented, and better yet, cheap, so I don't have to sacrifice a shaving soap like I did before.

I think I lost almost 10 bristles, some while just checking out the knot out of the box. Hopefully, this will lessen over time. I really like the Old School vibe of the handle.  After 10 minutes, it was feeling softer. I'll do this again for some days.

I have 3 more boar knots coming, and at least 2 are destined for handles. I plan to participate in Decemboar, and needed to make sure my arsenal had enough variety for me, ha ha.

I got my "booster" dose of Moderna on Monday. Even though it is half the volume of the 2 dose series I got in Jan and Feb, my muscle is a bit tender there! Only extremely mild side effect symptoms, compounded by being tired. So I am blaming that for the sore arm from lather that boar for 10 minutes!!

Just put up my bead-blasted Yates 921 M with 2 handles up on the BST, and updated pricing as I have posted them in another neighborhood and wanted my prices to be consistent. I was able to get the polished 921, so I hope to recoup some cost by selling the bead blasted one.

According to USPS, my boar knot from TurnNShave was supposed to arrive today, but it didn't. In anticipation, I pulled two more knots, both Cashmeres, in the Communion (purple) and Messier (red) handles, and will fit those handles with boar knots or maybe a larger Oumo 2BED that I have lying around. Rather than have too many duplicate knots in various sizes, I am reducing them to the ones I like best (ie, find myself reaching for) and put other knots in these beautiful handles. TGN knots should arrive sometime, I did get the final invoice via PayPal, as I asked to add a larger boar to fit the Fluffy Ind. handle.

Paul D brought up the fear he has that I share, namely breaking a ceramic shave bowl. In this regard, I am trying to find a piece of counter real estate that can be claimed by the new PAA Brush Warmer, thereby hopefully reducing dropping it as I pull it out from under the sink! Second use was today, with the new PAA Green Ray hybrid Tribble knot. Boy oh boy, I likey warm lather on these cold mornings (25F at the kitchen window!).

And in great news: Time Change tonight! I love Fall Back, and hate, hate, hate Spring Forward. Dave, does Kentucky abstain from this silliness? I know parts of Indiana does, but for some reason, I was thinking the Bluegrass State poo-poo'd DST.

In all cases, let's have a good weekend, and a safe one!

For this week, here is the line up, although players may change at a moment's notice!

In the upper left, the new and very much enjoyed on 3 uses, is the PAA brush warmer. Man oh man, warm lather when outside it's in the upper 20s in the ante meridian! And we have these big huge window panes, and even if they are double-paned, it can get a little cool in the loo.

The soap was a splurge after selling some stuff. I have been hearing (rather, reading) about how great the CK-6 formula from PAA is, so along with the brush warmer and the Green Ray hybrid Tribble brush, I got the Scentsless in the ultra-premium formula (says so right in the ad!).

And brushes were themed to be Trotter Handcrafts wooden handles. This morning was the 28mm SynBad fan, which I swear is bigger than the 30mm bulb I have. I loaded heavy, and the soap was more than enough (is there such a thing?). I had to keep dipping the tips of the knot as I lathered my face to get the consistency I like. Obviously, there can be too much soap loaded!

And making its inaugural use after being all spiffied up by AlanH81, is the General, atop a Timeless titanium handle.

The shave was a very good one. The General does seem to glide better, and after using GEMs for a couple of weeks or more, it was nice to get under my nose a little easier! And someone somewhere mentioned using an injector to touch up the goatee area, and I have tried that a bit and like it! And I get to use more than one razor! Win, win!!

Now, about the players switching out. I have been pulling knots and scraping handle sockets in anticipation of setting new knots. Some one I sold some brushes to posted in another forum about his G5A and how it is the only synth he know of that actually seems to need what he can only call a break in period, even though he admits synths shouldn't need on. That reminded me of Paul T's praise for the G5A. So I dug around and found my G5A, cleaned up the bump a bit to get rid of old silicone, and reset it. It will make an appearance Tuesday or Wednesday, sort of a "do-over" if you will.

Hope your weekend is ending well, and you are as ready as you can be for Monday!

Monday started its nastiness early, like 2:30 in the morning  Angry with an emergency ostomy bag change. So I wasn't in a good mood for the start of the day, when I seemed to be attracting every cautious driver in front of me on the way to work!

But, is that so bad? We changed the appliance before a leak sprung, and I'd rather get less sleep and not have to deal with the mess of a sprung appliance (it's the adhesive wafer that seals to the skin around the stoma). And a slightly slower drive to work meant more time to listen to Andy Serkis' narration of The Lord of the Rings. So what I really needed was a change in my perspective!

Shave related, I reset the G5A knot and soaked it before using it, like with a boar brush.

This shave changed my mind drastically on this knot! Love it!
