Hi guys,

I’m in the search of the perfect shaving soap for acne prone skin. I’m 30 and lately I'm always getting some acne in the shaving area. I think some comedogenic ingredients present in the vast majority of quality shaving soaps are the culprit because they clog pores. Coconut oil is a good example.

Here are some list of ingredients with comedogenic scale. Seems that people like me needs to stay away from components with a scale from 3 to 5 at least.

I’m thinking about to don’t use all my good soaps anymore and search for the best product for acne prone skin and use it exclusively. I’m really tired of this problem.

In next days probably I’ll be using Speick Active cream and after shave only.

I mailed Michelle at Mystic Water about their Sensitive Skin formula.

My cleaning routine is very good. I clean my face morning and night with a face cleanser. Now I’m starting to use Sebamed Clear Face for acne prone skin. Also bought a Clarisonic Alpha Fit brush.

Did you have some shaving acne problems? How do you solve?

Thanks.

You need a salicylic acid cleaner for use after you shave. It exfoliates and treats acne as well. Although I rarely get acne at my age I can recommend this product as absolutely incredible, their other products as well:

Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

First of all. Have you visited a dermatologist? Only HE knows the answer. I don't know how severe is your acne or how severe could be in the future. He will probably prescribe you some antibiotics. Acne can be caused from many things, including diet( dairy etc.). Also too much pressure and bad technique while shaving can cause mild acne.

I guess you will receive some recommendations here from members, artisans will recommend/ advertise their products...

I can tell you this. I had this issue some time ago. Like you, I took the decision to start shaving with Speick products. We all know how good ingredients they contain. Classic Speick cream and balm were my choices that time. Problem was still there after a month of shaving exclusively with these. Nothing changed. I visited some dermatologists, changed my diet, my cleaning routine, took antibiotics for a while. My acne was mild, but I didn't enjoy my shaves the way I used to, I wanted a clean skin. Changing my diet and the cleaning routine helped a lot. But what helped me the most was refrain from shaving. I know, I know... You don't want to stop shaving, this is a shaving forum and you're looking for recommendations about shaving products. But the ONLY way to solve this, especially since it's in your shaving area, is to refrain from shaving for some months. Experimenting with dozens of products does NOT help. The infected area needs to relax a bit and stop shaving is the answer you're looking for. Buy a good trimmer instead. Breaking the pimples caused by acne while shaving is the worst you can do to your skin. You don't solve the problem that way. Health is far more important than a clean shave. I know of people who deal with this problem for years, it takes time.

If you really want to find a solution, you have to trust me. I don't even know how much money I've spent on skin products the last years. It's a rabbit hole.

Thanks you for such a good response!

Yes, it’s a pain to stop shaving, but I’m a bit tired of spending thousands of dollars in the best products for shaving and don’t have a very good skin. It’s frustrating.

You're welcome, my friend.

I know how you feel. I've been there.

I sent emails to a number of artisans about that issue and all were trying to sell me products, telling me how good ingedients their products contain. At some point I said to myself that this has to stop, I need to find a solution. Now, years later, my skin is clean. Trying to figure out the causes of acne for each individual is a mystery, even for doctors.

I wish you all the best! I'd like to read about your progress. And remember, time is your friend.

I stopped shaving for about 5 months. During this period, I used to trim my beard at a low setting, clean my face twice per day with a neutral ph cleanser that a dermatologist recommended me( still clean it). Cleaning routine is critical. He also prescribed me a topical antibiotic cream that contained erythromycin. By the way, only a dermatologist knows the ideal therapy for each case. All my life I loved drinking milk. I've stopped drinking milk and consuming any dairy product.

The mild acne issue I had now belongs to the past. It's a bad memory. Thankfully it never came back.

Do you still use shaving soaps with comedogenic listed ingredients?
