SharpSpine's OneBlade Journal (now w/ CORE)

The two OneBlade Razors are identical: the only difference being the serial number. The one on the left is the original one from the Father's Day package, and the one on the right, the Collector's Edition:

Here's a closeup. The one on the left has a Feather blade in it, the one on the right, the Collector's Edition, has the little foam insert still in.

The only difference I can tell is in the serial numbers, the original was 5237, the Collector's 0067. Pics are a bit blurry, will take clearer ones if there's interest: Here's the standard:

Although they gave me the option to return the first one, there's no way I’m returning it. I am a reluctant convert, as I’ve been a traditional wet shaver for close to 40 years.

The shaves continue to be much better than I expected. I’ve had many barber shaves in my life, and they’ve had a different quality to them than the very good, very close, double edge shaves I’ve been able to achieve with my traditional wet shaving and Method Shaving techniques. The quality of the shaves I’ve been getting with the OneBlade is equal to-or better than-the barber shaves I’ve gotten in my life, including some from the best barbers in Italy and New York.

I've spent years and years developing my technique with the Double Edge razor, adjusting angles, many razors, vintage and new, different mixes of soaps, oils, creams, Method Shaving, on and on, and it slightly annoys me that a piece of tech like this can potentially short circuit that learning curve!

This morning, I had a shave with just a good shaving soap and a brush and the OneBlade Razor and it was a true barber quality BBS. Not only that, I went after my face aggressively, with three passes and a touch up pass, almost trying to irritate my face. The result? A perfect shave, no nicks, no cuts, no irritation.

I'm only a week into it, but I've been around the shaving block long enough to sense that this is a solid razor. It doesn't give the pleasure that comes with mastering a very aggressive razor with a sharp blade, but for a daily shave, I think this may be my go to.

Congratulations with the success with the OneBlade, Michael, and I would have to concur with you regarding this shaver!
A friend let me borrow his for one week and I had some of the best shaves I have ever had even while being aggressive with the shaver.

By the way, what is the difference between the collector's OneBlade and the standard one?

Hi Celestino, and thanks for the kind words.

I think Brian mentioned in one of his posts that you can hardly feel the pivot working, and I agree. It took a little while to get used to as I wanted to manually set the angle as you do with a traditional DE razor. But this is apparently meant to be brain-dead simple, and I find that if I put the guard against the face, the slight pressure engages the pivot and puts the blade at a 30 degree angle for you. Sort of takes the fun/challenge out of it.

Brian's posts were very helpful in getting a good sense of the razor, and by far the most in-depth and comprehensive review/journal I've read about this razor.

As far as I can tell, there is absolutely no difference between the standard OneBlade and the Collector's Edition except for the serial number-the numbers on the CEs go from 1-100. And they charge a hefty premium for that. The way I figure it, if the OneBlade takes off, my grandsons will have something that may be worth a pretty penny, and if not, I'll have an extra razor!
