As I have been preparing for the Santal Auster release along with Scott from Declaration Grooming, we have been going back and forth trying to get everything perfect. He's got an extra special surprise in store soap-wise, and so with all the big stuff we've got planned, we wanted to make sure we did it just right. The problem is, when you're hundreds of miles away, sending materials back and forth is no easy process.

So we had two options: rush out the release of the shaving products as quickly as possible to meet our deadline, or make sure we have enough time to make the product as perfect as possible and the release as seamless as possible. Because we're both perfectionists of sorts, the easy choice was to wait until we were positive we could make this release exactly as special as we wanted to make it.

Thank you for understanding. This wasn't easy for us, but it is the right choice.

We sincerely believe that the wait will be worth it. The sandalwood scent of the Santal Auster shaving products is getting perfected to really shine in the soap base as well as our aftershave products (all sold in the domestic United States through Declaration Grooming, in Canada and worldwide through Top of the Chain and Canadian Blade Co) in a one-time release. Once it's gone its gone). I am putting together special packaging for my products, plus extra special packaging for the Santal Auster Parfum Extrait (building upon the sandalwood accord used in the shaving products by enhancing it with oud, opoponax, styrax, amyris, patchouli and castoreum), which you can see below.

The new Santal Auster Parfum Extrait (NOT the same scent as the shaving products, but enhanced with other precious oils) features the new Chatillon Lux Parfums line look. This style will be reflected throughout the packaging for the other products and is a celebration of the new, exciting opportunities I embrace as I make this my full-time career.

Thank you, Freddy! I work with a super talented graphic designer who specializes in typography. I asked him to do something that combines some of the new-style branding that companies like Escentric Molecules and Imaginary Authors use, but instead of using graphic treatments, use a typography treatment that gives a firm nod to the traditional perfume brands like Chanel or something a little more daring like Profumum Roma.

When he showed me that mockup, I could not have been happier. I guess they aren't kidding when they say that it's best to surround yourself with talented people Smile

You never know what will end up in the door prize raffle. Usually I like to throw a bit of unobtainium into the mix so we'll see.

I got the labels in last night, so here's the first look at the new Chatillon Lux Parfums branding and the Santal Auster release.

Beautiful designs, Shawn, congratulations. I have budgeted a spot for it in my shave den, and look forward to doing a side-by-side impression between your Santal Auster, Rose Santal, and Luten's Santal Majuscule.

Awesome, thanks! Luckily I know talented graphic designers who take my vague direction and give me not only what I asked for, but more than I could have imagined.

Also, that's some good company. Santal Majuscule is one of my favorite scents. I am super proud of the way the Santal Auster Parfum Extrait turned out, however, so I'm very excited to see how they compare.

Shawn, will the Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli be coming out as an eau de toilette, parfum, or both?  If only one or the other, how do you determine which?

Once again, I must sing the praises of the new design across the products (toner, salve, aftershave, and parfum).  I think it is a huge leap forward from your earlier labels and hope it attracts even more people to the product inside.

It will be in an eau de toilette. I wrote a blog about determining which scent concentration to use, but to give the Cliff Notes for this instance, I am going with eau de toilette because of the light, fruity nature of the scent. Since anything citrusy is naturally fleeting, pumping it up to an eau de parfum level would perhaps throw off the structure of what I'm trying to go for, giving more emphasis to the rose and patchouli notes. Like my other eau de toilette, it will be at a concentration level (15%-ish, depending on where I land) that could be considered eau de parfum, but due to the performance and type of scent that Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli is, I think it performs more like you would expect an eau de toilette to perform.

The parfum line will more more complex and nuanced, scents, featuring the finest raw ingredients available, that lend themselves to a stronger concentration. They will be made just as much for the sake of olfactory art as they will be made for wearability.

Don't get me wrong, I'm proud of all my fragrances (or else I would never let them see the light of day), but if I were to have made something like Santal Auster for the Provisions line, it would have been totally different due to budgetary restraints to keep it at that $60 price point.

Also, thank you so much on the labels. I may or may not have spent a while basking in my happiness last night looking at them. I do feel like the Provisions labels are still really great and reflective of the line in their rustic apothecary style, but the complex modernism merged with an old-fashioned emphasis on typography on these new labels I believe really reflects exactly what I am striving for with the Parfums line.
