Rocnel SE50 - New SE using Artist Club blades

As I promised to darkbulb I just made a short video showing how to load a blade to Rocnel SE50. Also added some of my impressions about the razor.

OK, removing the handle is common and expected.  Removing the screw on every blade change????  UGH not a great design IMO.

I was wondering about that. In the Rocnel SE the screw doesn't do a thing, but it can be removed.

So, am I right to assume on this design the screw plays a part securing the blade?

That's what I thought, but your post made sense to me, so that's why I was wondering if the screw was part of securing the blade.

Nice video! My main concern is the weight of the razor. I read somewhere that the head alone weights about 75gr, while the Mongoose head weights around 50. I have the Mongoose, both stainless and aluminum versions. I'd say that the stainless Mongoose is already too heavy, I really can't imagine how heavy would be the SE50. Most gentlemen disliked and sold their stainless Mongoose due to the weight of the razor and prefer the aluminum version. A razor that weights overall 155-165gr is extremely heavy. But, it has an innovative design and is less expensive than a Mongoose or a ATT SE1 razor, though the weight remains the biggest problem. If they have plans to make a lighter head made with a different material, then I'll buy it the moment it hits the market. I'll pass for now.

From what I’ve read, there are plenty of people who really enjoy their Mongoose Stainless Steel. I am one of them. I have the AlumiGoose, as well, and both razors are brilliant — but if I had to choose just one, I would go with the stainless steel version.

However, I agree that the Mongoose SS is really “up there” when it comes to weight, and I prefer to use it with a lightweight handle to keep the overall weight manageable. If the new Rocnel head is even heavier than the Mongoose SS, then … well, it is heavy, indeed!

Well I have both Cobras now as well as both Mongoose razors. For me the old Cobra Classic gives the smoothest shave. I need to try a regular handle with the alumigoose head and see how that performs.

I still need to try some different configurations with the AlumiGoose 2, but so far I’ve noticed that the handle it comes with is actually a really good match, weight and balance-wise.

Wow, a lot happening on this front right now. But that’s just good news. It seems we’re not only being presented with new choices, but with some quality choices. Excited to find out — in due time — about the new project in the works!

Actually you don't need to remove it every time. You can just loosen it a bit. I remove it in the video just to show it better.
