Hi,
I've owned the Rex (N issue) since mid May. When I first used it I struggled a lot of drag and my face felt rough and tender in places.

After much experimentation I'm starting to getting  consistently good shaves

*(I don't shave on a daily basis, never could. Plus I used other razors, including various on loan. So it's taken me longer than it really should TBH)*

I found shorter strokes, riding more towards the safety bar and very light pressure helps with the drag issue. I don't get any irritation or roughness too.

Settings are usually 3/3/3 and 2.5 for touch-ups. Blades I've found which work best are Gillette Platinum (dark blue packet) and Polsilver.

Cheers
Rob
I also had and felt a drag as well that's why I said have so many other razors that Glide that I just sold the Rex even though it was so well made and shaved well but that drag just wasn't for me when I have so many other wonderful razors that are smoother and glide like ice

Out of curiosity, which razors do you prefer?

Yep, that's quite a few! Thanks for sharing.

I'm waiting on an Ambassador, but haven't tried any of those that work better for you.

I really tried hard to like the Rex cuz I love the way it's built and the way it feels in the hand. I tried the early version and then the new version which was a little bit better but it's hard to figure out where the drag comes from. I had the same problem with the Blackbird and then I got a polished version and that solved it. But polishing does not necessarily mean that'll change I have razors with matte finishes like the Rockwell and it is smooth as well so it could be the material could be the finish it could be the angle there are many variables.

Having just got my Rockwell, I'll sell/return whichever proves more difficult to provide a comfortable shave.

I started wet shaving 5-6 years ago and haven't followed all the new gear since then. I think almost all the razors you like weren't around when I was in acquisition mode. Guess I have some research to do...

I think the drag is a product of technique and not the razor. I noticed it in a couple of strokes my first shave with the razor, but I made some adjustments and haven’t noticed it since then. I think it’s caused by too much pressure or letting the safety bar touch your skin. I use a fairly neutral angle, but I keep the safety bar just barely above my skin. I think pressure is the main cause though.

No the drag is not a product of technique for me. I tried many angles I'm a very experienced shaver and I have over 50 razors so I really feel I know my face and what I'm doing and what works for me and what doesn't. It is what it is and different things work for different people may you enjoy the Rex

I used the Rex for this morning's shave and, once again, I am just amazed by the razor. I have now used it about five times and every shave has been irritation and nick free. Also, the BBS feel from the shave lasts considerably longer than most, if not all, of my other DEs. I really don't feel the drag that some seem to notice so I guess it still comes down to the old saw, YMMV. Whatever the reason for the drag, I'm just happy I haven't experienced it and I've used two or three different brands of blade from first to seventh use of a particular blade.

I love the way the rex shaves! Also I enjoy the ease of loading and unloading the blade. There is definitely something to be said for that. Excellent design. I polished the top cap on mine and I'm not sure if I notice any change in the shave but it sure looks good.
