A number of blade companies seem to use wax to seal their wrappers, which I found annoying with DE blades, but I could live with it. However, I recently got a OneBlade and I find the Feather blade for this razor seems to come with even more wax than the DE version. Since much of the loaded blade is visible, the wax blobs look awful and more importantly, I'm concerned they will gum up the razor. I've been using a towel to rub off as much of the wax as I can, but was wondering if anyone else had a better way to get this stuff off of the blade?

Thanks

Use the old blade you just removed.

That's what I do. Old blade takes the wax off easily.

Don't bother. It's not hurting anything.

When inserting the blade, if you have some of the liquid soap, push some onto your finger and then let it drip onto the blade and insert it.

When removing the blade, and your hands are slippery, grab it with a dry kleenix in your hand,

If you think the razor is getting gunky, put some Simple green (not solyent green Wink ) into a cup and put the oneblade in head down. Let it soak. I let it soak at least 12 hours. It comes out fine. Do not use anything else

For "how it looks" it will never look good enough to take good pictures with. The moment you touch it there will always be finger prints on it.

When KAI and Personna can produce blades without wax at all to hold the blade in place, so can others.

Wax should be condemmed and not allowed, because it's unnecessary and tends to cloq up beard stubbles and lather under the top plate of the razor.

Why use wax, when you don't need it ?

I agree with you, Claus. Some blades that do use wax use way more than is necessary and cleaning it off the head of my razor is time-consuming and annoying. As you state, if some blade companies can safely wrap blades without wax then why not all?

Hot water seems to melt most of it away.

Yes, but still does not solve the mystery: WHY USE WAX, when several blades have been without wax spots for years ?

KAI is arguably among the best, smoothest and sharpest (and also unfortunately the most expensive DE blade you can buy) blade you can get.
Personna is very fairly priced.

Both blades come without wax spots at all.

Look at a Feather blade - 2 HUGE wax spots in the center of the blade.
Look at Gillette Silver Blue - 4 big wax spots, very often one of the wax spots is placed directly on the edge of the blade, which is an ingenious placement of the wax spot.

I protest with my wallet against wax spots.

Only use two DE blades now - KAI and Personna Med Prep.

Me too. I'll use up the ones I already have (and I scrape the wax off with the old blade) but I won't buy any more. Some say that the wax keeps the blades from becoming dull from contact with the paper wrapper but I don't buy that explanation.

Voskhod blades are similarly packaged as the KAI and Personna blades, i.e., sans wax stains, and perform equally as well.
