RazoRock Hawk (SE)

So I ordered a Black Hawk because I just really don't care for chrome. I figured I would just sell the chrome one, since they are no more, and people are looking for them. I got the black one today, and all was fine. I had a little wax lubricant on the threads of the chrome one so I figured I would clean it up a little before I boxed it. I tossed it in my little electro static cleaner and..... it bubbled up the chrome plating. So the moral of the story is:

Be gentle  with your Hawks.  The plating is what one might expect for twenty bucks.

No problem. Not trying to be pedantic, I just didn't know what you meant. Also, why the hell would an ultrasonic cleaner remove plating? Yeesh

Yeah, I don't know. Where it bubbled it is paper thin. Like a kids toy when it peels. I have used that little cleaner on probably close to a hundred razors and it has never caused a problem. The only ones I don't use it on are razors that have paint, like a Slim, or Super Adjustable.

I might try a cheap cera-kote type spray job on it. It isn't like it's worth anything now.

It's kind of too bad. It is a pretty nice shaver. I would have gladly paid a few more dollars to get something decently built. I know he was aiming for a price point, but I think we all could have dealt with it if he would have told us he had to get 26.99 for it because the plating ran a little higher than planned.

PickledNorthern Can you post a pic of where it flaked/peeled. I'm curious to see what it looks like underneath.

The ultrasonic cleaner can be especially problematic for really old razors because of how old the plating is. If you ever use one, put it in for short cycles, don't use a harsh chemical treatment and maybe don't use the heating function.

This is just a little 19.95 jewelry cleaner from Amazon. I don't ever use any type of cleaning agent other than a little squirt of whatever hand soap my wife has on the counter.
