PSA: Wald Shaving Drop

Sad news! Given the Nordstream debacle of the last 2 days, I can see energy prices
shooting up to even more insane levels now. I think the ones who got their brushes
already can rejoice...can't see anything less than a couple hundred euros extra tacked
on for the next drop. Small businesses in Germany are getting wrecked.

I’m military stationed in Germany and it’s pretty nuts over here right now. Peoples $200 gas bills have shot to $500 a month.

I was reliably informed on this forum that "Jannik won’t be making Wald brushes
for a while, due to an injury"...so imagine my surprise when his drop with about 30 brushes
popped up yesterday.

Wasn't a heart stopping old-school Wolfman drop that gets over in 3 seconds...a fairly
leisurely jaunt by comparison.

Picked up a decent 29mm A1 fan...I hope these brushes live up to the top billing.

Seems there is no traction for the 18mm knots...Im hardly surprised.
And what's with the handles in 3 different shades of Barbie pink LOL.

Ah, you got the Lagoon blue one. It’s a lovely colour. I suspect we’ll see a lot of these being requested in future.

Brush arrived today and I opened a new tub of Nuavia Rosso.
Wow, love the smell on this one.
Had forgotten what a great soap Nuavia used to make.

Anyway, nice brush...unique face feel....plush, no lather flinging,
This knot behaves differently.
Amazing how it shrinks when it takes on water...drying is different too.
Fibres clump together in a way that seems unsightly but give it a couple of shakes
and it all settles well.

I have to say I didn't think much of the handle's ergonomics...especially when bowl lathering.
Lots of lather dripping down the handle etc...maybe I need some tips on how to go about it better.
I had gotten used to an Omega EVO 1.0 with a Everset-type of long handle that works great in bowls.
This Wald would be better for lathering straight off a hard puck, I reckon.

Oh well, another one off the bucket list.

Tester28 which handle shape did you select? I looked through earlier comments but may have missed it. My Wald brushes are both the Nimbus style. I am primarily a bowl latherer and do recall having an initial concern about the ergonomics with that handle style. But I would say within 3 or 4 shaves I wasn't even noticing it. I tend to fully grasp the handle with all fingers in a kind of light claw hold, with the tips of my finger meeting the natural stop at the top of the handle. I typically use relatively shallow bowls which might make things a bit easier. The Wald brushes make up a large percentage of my overall brush rotation, which may have also aided adaptation.

Use it a bunch. Gets much better for me after a good break in period. The ones on the left feel way better to use than the new ones I got.

I have an affinity for white brushes going back to the Rooney days. Grabbed one from the recent Sunday drop.

The A1 does need time to break in like badgers do. My second A1 Nimbus handle. Wonderfully built brushes and the A1 Knot is a favorite along with Lee Sabini’s knots.

Second shave with A1 went a lot better than first.
I finally came to grips with the prodigious water retention qualities of these fibres.
The trick, I learned, is to give the brush 3-4 firm shakes to get most of the water out.
Then add water using fingertips few drops at a time.

Pure luxury...first time I actually spent more time lathering up...normally I can't wait to
get it over and done with.

Still not convinced about the Nimbus handle as it's not very bowl friendly (unless your
bowl has roomy interior).

A matt finish may be the way to go in future...perhaps a matt Stratos handle with a bulb knot for variety.
