Dear All,

I'm not ready yet to drop the $ for a OneBlade. How about the Parker? Any thoughts about the actual blade would be appreciated....there is so much out there its a bit overwhelming.

Thanks Jay

Hey Jay,  the good thing there are so many great choices today that won't break the bank. The bad thing, there are so many choices it's likely to drive you crazy Smile

I have not used the R99 myself but it gets decent reviews. Having said that, Italian Barber has this razor that looks very similar to the R99 and will save you a couple extra bucks too.

I also think this is a great value from IB; it has the DE89 head [a classic] and SS handle all for $20!

I have a couple of razorock razors and enjoy them all.

I agree with Kevin's suggestion, above.
Also, you may want to consider the Merkur Progress as it is an adjustable and a fantastic shaver.
You could also look into the vintage razors.
Good luck.

I'll throw my hat into the mix here as well, and say that THIS RAZOR is currently my favorite, though mine is mounted on a different handle. The V3 head is simply fantastic, in my opinion, and the handles are stainless steel. There is also a nice variety of handles to choose from...look around the store a bit!

Not to hijack the thread, but I've been very close to pulling the trigger on the Maggard MR5 for a while now. BadDad, do you have the V3 or V3A head? Trying to decide which to go with...

To address the OP's other question regarding the blade, it all depends on what blade you put in the razor, adding another ever changing variable. The fact that there are literally hundreds of different brands of blades makes it all the more confusing. It just takes a lot of experimentation to determine what works best for you. Then add to that the reality that every blade doesn't perform the same way in every razor, well...you get the idea...

I have the V3. I almost got the V3a, but I am glad i didnt. The V3 is very efficient and comfortable at the same time. More aggressive than a Tech or Super Speed, but still very smooth.

So what does "more aggressive" refer to. I'm a 3 times a week shaver, with uneven growth. So more aggressive sounds like its ready to bite a bit.

Thanks Jay

The terms "mild" and "aggressive" really are open to interpretation. In general, it relates to the amount of blade exposure and the angle that the blade is presented to the skin, which translates to yes...a more aggressive razor is more likely to bite. The more aggressive a razor is, the more exposure of the blade edge you have, thus the more opportunities for bad angles or lapse of focus to cause nicks, cuts and weepers.

That's not to say a mild razor is any less EFFICIENT.

Some people make the mistake of thinking that aggression and efficiency are the same thing. They are not. There is no reason a mild razor can't be efficient. You have to compare the razors and how they work for you, because at the end of the day, it's all about getting a clean, close, and comfortable shave. The type of razor you choose to accomplish that goal is a matter of opinion...

I have the V3A head on an MR5 handle and love it. It is like an adjustable Gillette set on 7.
