Andrew,

I think there is a good chance that will be the case for you with sensitive skin. In my case, double edge razors have become a good option for me with the Gillette Swedes. The Feathers are so sharp that I wind up with cuts, even when being careful.

Here's a link to my review of half the face with one, half with the other.

https://damnfineshave.com/thread-your-th...5#pid82185

Since we have two folks with OneBlades on the way, I'll mention the glue on the Feather blades, which gets on my last nerve. It seems to bother me more than other folks. Some folks run it under hot water and wipe it off, though I found that didn't get it all off.

OneBlade recommended running alcohol. I took a little jar with a lid and filled it with alcohol and took a paperclip and turned it into a straight piece with a hook on each end. With that, I can dunk the blade with the hook and let it sit.

Even the alcohol doesn't get it all off, though it's better than hot water.

As I think about it, and the weeper I got with the Feather blade in the shave off, I'm liking the GEM better and better.

You’re not the only one who finds the glue/wax annoying. There’s even a thread about it elsewhere here on DFS. I’ve said it there and I’ll say it here — I find it baffling that some blade manufacturers can do without the gunk, while others apply it liberally.

Some of the FHS blade promo shots on retail sites are amusing. They show a stack of unopened blade boxes, and then one FHS blade that is sitting in its open wrapper. You’d think the blade would be nice and shiny — this is a promo shot, after all! But no, half of the blade is covered in that sticky wax.

Hey, at least you can’t claim false advertising. In this case, what you see is truly what you get! Smile

Gotta hand it to them for being honest.

Wow.

That's a ton of wax.

I have in the past kept a little container of 91% isopropyl alcohol in the shave den. A good swish in it would work for DE blades with glue dots. THAT looks like it would be more than a good swish in alcohol could deal with.

Seeing that the OneBlade is not a razor you can disassemble and clean, the wax could be a problem over time.

Seems high maintenance. Especially if you use the blades the way I did when I tried one. Like twice each max.

I use my handmade bath soap to clean the glue off my blades. I simply rub my index finger and thumb on the soap and then rub the glue dots on both sides of the blade at the same time and rinse. This only takes a few seconds and the glue is gone. I believe any artisan should work, or maybe regular commercial soap too but I don't have any to try.

bakerbarber , I agree with your comments and haven't found it that easy to get all of the glue off. Getting some of it off is pretty easy, getting it all isn't. My experience has been that alcohol is no more effective than running it under hot water or using soap. You can get enough glue off so that it doesn't gum up the works, though it is still messy and sticky on your fingers.

I would be pretty miffed about the glue on the blades if the GEM's didn't work so well for me.

Brian, I am quite surprised you don't already have a back-up. Shy

By the way, this offer doesn't seem like a very good deal if there is a $99 restocking fee.
I actually bought one of these razors for $269 and I returned it for a full refund, minus the shipping fees both ways, because I just didn't enjoy the shaves with the razor, unfortunately.
This was my second time with one and it was a bit disappointing as the first one I had used provided some decent shaves. However, this second one did not. I just found it very mild.

Oh, well. It was a nice experience, nonetheless.

Now, I need to figure out what I will do with those 200 GEM blades that I got from Connaught Shaving in anticipation of this razor. Big Grin

I totally agree with this. As I was browsing the OneBlade website, I came across this page, and had to screencapture it just for future reference. Stansberry here talks about a full 100% refund — no special conditions are mentioned. Shipping fees I would of course understand.

Anyway, in the man’s own words:

They even capitalized "full" to emphasize it. I assume they just forgot to update that after the policy was changed, but that still doesn't make it right. I don't see how they could refuse a full refund as a result.

I notice they are assuming customers are switching to OneBlade from plastic cartridge razors. I imagine it would be the best razor one ever used in that case, but not necessarily for those already using DEs.
