New DG Base

i hope so too, i wouldnt mind buying "after the rain" in the new base, as i have one in the old base and its awesome... The crazy part is my wife likes "bandwagon", and its not being made anymore so... have to keep that one away from her since she wet shaves as well lol

Though I can’t detect any noticeable difference from previous bases, the new iteration is fantastic.

Okay so I just watched a new Ruds video about lathering a badger brush. He uses the new DG milksteak base, but two or three times he says it's a hard soap, I believe was his words. I don't know about you guys but all three of mine were very soft soap, and it's going to get used up quick probably. So now I'm thinking what happened here, shouldn't he be using the same thing we're getting, and or other things the same or not?

Maybe Ruds misspoke? Even Scott in his Live FB broadcasts describes Milksteak as a softer base to help ease of loading and lathering. My tub of unscented maybe my softest tub I have out of a dozen or so soaps. I kinda think of Milksteak as a step up from the Bison base but to me at least I do see some differences in a positive way. The addition of milks to a soap gives a very distinctive creamy texture to a soap and this soap definitely has that texture to it. Plus it is rediculously easy to lather and very slick which will make this my default “need a quick shave but don’t want to skimp on the process “ soap. Never tried Icarus as no unscented was available so I can’t compare there.

I picked up the Milksteak base After The Rain, and mine is soft too.  However, Milksteak is not notably softer than most soaps that have gotten my main attention this year.  I would say it is within the range for these soaps, which are in alphabetical order: 

• Eufros (vegan and tallow)
  
• Grooming Dept (vegan and tallow)
  
• Murphy and McNeil (Aon and Tallow)
  
• T+S
  

The only other soap in which I have invested serious time and money this year is SV Beta 4.3, which is much harder than the others.

Milksteak is NOT a hard soap. I don't know if Ruds just misspoke or what, but it is about on par with the softness of the bison base IMO, just a different texture.

So it sounds like a lot of the artisan soaps are roughly the same consistency.

I do like the soap, and on that particular video I asked the ruds about the hard soap, he  he had and he confirms that in his comment. Not a deal-breaker just something I noticed.
