New CORE razor from OneBlade

I used my CORE.2 this morning with a fresh Feather blade. It is definitely more aggressive than the first CORE iteration as I had a closer shave & even picked up a few weepers. The original CORE never brought forth any blood.

I still need to try a GEM in the CORE.2 to see how it does. Unfortunately for all my OneBlades, they are currently being outperformed by the Blackland Sabre. This means less face-time for the CORE & more time in between feedback shaves.

Damn it man, your posts, almost single-handedly made me buy the Sabre. . There goes my RAD control.

Sourav, I wasn't so sure about the Sabre after a few shaves and then I dialed in the angle and technique. I had most certainly lost some skill by using the OneBlade for so long. Now it amazes each shave how close it can get without irritating my sensitive skin. Simply one of the best designed razors I've ever had the pleasure of using.

I'm confident you will like it. Just know that it is mild feeling. You will barely feel the blade, but it can most assuredly be an efficient shaver.

I have a v1 stainless OneBlade in which I only use despined GEM blades. The CORE.2 used the GEM blade better than the Feather for me on today's shave. Still, neither are getting as close as I'm now used to with the Blackland Sabre.

Thanks Brian, did you alter the blade for the Core 2 other than removing the spine?

No altering other than taking the spine off. I refuse to clip GEM blades anymore. It never worked for me.

Hey Brian, how's it going. Just wanted to check if you had used your CoreV2 anymore with the GEM blade and if your opinion had changed. I should have tried one when I had the V1. Since you just despine them how well does the blade stay in place.  My V1 with the Feather blade clicked in easily so I never had to force it thus never had to worry about the blade guards or whatever they are called. With the GEM is it possible to push to hard and slice into them or does it have a natural set point even though it won't lock in without blade alteration.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on it. Looks like the are out of stock again.  Really hoping the GEM is a viable option due to availability and cost. I've had some negative things to say about the V1 rollout etc. but it's the least irritating shave I've had given how close I was able to get even considering the extra passes. Thanks for any info.

I honestly haven't used it anymore as I can't seem to stop using the Sabre. I'd imagine that if you really pushed the blade in that you could slice the corner guards but IMO you'd have to be trying to do that. I push the blade in gently until the edge comes in contact with the corner guards. The nubs inside the head hold enough tension on the blade to keep it from moving despite the fact that it doesn't lock in.

Thanks Brian I would go into with the expectation that the Feather is what it was designed for and using the GEM successfully would just be an added bonus. My trouble area is my left side neck area where my hair grows sideways from the middle towards my ear. Its probably 80% technique but I was surprised at how much better my face felt after I had used the V1 after a week (13 total shaves before returning it). If I get it I may see if I can achieve the same success using it only for my ATG pass. Thanks again for your help.

I was one of the people who liked the v1 Core , but I still exchanged mine for the v2. I find that the v2 is just as comfortable, but is more efficient. I believe this change was the right move, and I'm really happy with the product.

Does the Core V2 need more work, or have they achieved what was needed?

Pete it's really a nice improvement in efficiency but I don't have a Genesis to compare. I still have my V1 and apart from the internal blade lifters in V2 the V1 and V2 are pretty much identical. Same spring strength, weight etc. I will add that the blades also seem to load more easily in the V2. It's still on the mild side but I can go against the grain on my neck and get BBS with no irritation or weepers. All in all I am impressed.

Just curious, why all the hate for the Feather blade? What makes the gem better ? I can't imagine it getting better than today (but I know it will just by virtue of additional experience... I can't imagine the blade/razor combo getting better though).

most people can get well over 20+ shaves from the GEM blade and they're a lot cheaper than the feather fhs-10.

a little less than $.018 per blade for the GEM PTFE from tedpella.com (2 100 blade boxes for $35.60)....
