Just curious, why all the hate for the Feather blade? What makes the gem better ? I can't imagine it getting better than today (but I know it will just by virtue of additional experience... I can't imagine the blade/razor combo getting better though).

The Feather blade degrades much faster than the GEM & this leads to irritation for my skin. Neither blade is better when you look at them on their own. It all comes down to which performs best for you.

I don't doubt this at all.
The Feather DE blades have no longevity, IMO.

I still need to try a GEM in the CORE.2 to see how it does. Unfortunately for all my OneBlades, they are currently being outperformed by the Blackland Sabre. This means less face-time for the CORE & more time in between feedback shaves.

Damn it man, your posts, almost single-handedly made me buy the Sabre. Sad. There goes my RAD control.

Sourav, I wasn't so sure about the Sabre after a few shaves and then I dialed in the angle and technique. I had most certainly lost some skill by using the OneBlade for so long. Now it amazes each shave how close it can get without irritating my sensitive skin. Simply one of the best designed razors I've ever had the pleasure of using.

I'm confident you will like it. Just know that it is mild feeling. You will barely feel the blade, but it can most assuredly be an efficient shaver.

I am using my Sabre since 5th of this month. I plan to use it for the rest of this month continuously (as part of Austere August over at reddit). I have to say my experience with this razor has been wonderful so far.

Seriously, start another journal thread with Sabre. More people should know about how good this razor is!!

Unfortunately I'm already over a month into using this razor without thorough note taking like I did with the Mogoose & OneBlade. My time is much more limited as my business as grown. Fortunately, there is such a SE movement that there are plenty of others sharing their experiences with this amazing razor. I can't wait to give the Level 2 more aggressive baseplate a try whenever it becomes available.

Now, I am really looking forward to trying the Sabre to see if it can make those uncomfortable GEM blades work, for me. Shy

As I have mentioned to you earlier, I never liked GEM style razors. This Sabre and one 1912 (to a lesser extent) have been good to me.

Thanks, Sourav and I hope the Sabre works for me as I find it to be an aesthetically beautiful shaver. Smile

You may want to shave with this razor before selling it. Different folks value different things from their razors. The stainless OneBlade is hard to beat if you want a BBS shave every time without requiring great skill.

My take is that the dislike you mention isn't about the Feather blade, but around perceived business practices by the OneBlade folks. I'm not sure if this is true, though it looks like OneBlade has exclusive distribution for the Feather 10's in the US. They charged $1 per blade for quite a while and still charge $.67. This pricing as opposed to the inexpensive GEM's which last a long time is what created fans for the GEM blade.

The GEM's are worth a try. tryablade.com has them in small quantities, as does BullGoose and Connaught

GEM sells a bunch of different single edged razor blades. To the best of my knowledge, there is only one that delivers good shaving results, which are the SINGLE EDGE GEM PTFE COATED STAINLESS STEEL BLADES.

I've recently learned that more places carry these blades now. It used to be that Ted Pella was the only place. They have fair pricing, but don't know anything about shaving and can be a bit challenging to work with. For example, they require a signature for residential deliveries. My order from them had a bunch of extra USPS services, which made the shipping costly.

Connaught probably has the best deal, especially if you are able to get the free shipping. BullGoose has them as well.
