Quick informal DFS update today.

Lots of movement on the Era over the last few weeks. Preparing to scale into full production turned out to be a bit more problematic than expected. We've had to change the printing orientation of both head components to increase yield and speed up print times. There are some interesting and complicated technical reasons for this that I won't get into, but it's a nontrivial decision process. This also coincides with 3DEO bringing their next-gen printers online. These new models can print much faster and the new build volume allows for more efficient packing, even with the new print orientation. The takeaway from this switch is that production will be more dependable and robust as we increase production quantities. None of this changes the end product and we're feeling good about how this will impact our ability to scale production when required. We're doing a bit more testing on this now for validation and it's promising so far. The finish is now dialed in and full production is scheduled and will be starting imminently.

In the meantime, I've been using the finalized Era exclusively for the last couple weeks. You shouldn't take my word for it, but it's a good product. Really good. The blade clamping is insane and likely the best on the market (maybe the best possible for a DE?). The result of this is a shave that feels almost closer to an SE than a DE since the blade is so stable. It's really smooth at all levels with less blade feel than Blackland is generally known for and I'm loving the shaves. This release announcement has been a bit of a shit show, but I'm so proud of this thing that it doesn't matter. It's been nearly two years since we began and we'll keep pushing until it's finally in your hands.

Thank you, Shane Blackland Razors. Very informative update and I am really looking forward to this! We like to have our fun with memes here, mostly to amuse ourselves! Thanks for taking it well. For me, I mean to disrespect or prodding, just wasting time online! Your comparison of the Era to a SE is intriguing, as the Sabre has become one of my top 3 razors, the others being injectors and AC style Hawk V3 and General V2! I couldn't tame the Vector, my loss, and I moved it into hands that really enjoy it. My DEs have dropped below the SE razors. Maybe the Era will change that?!

Oh I don't get offended one bit. You guys can and should meme all you want. After all, the pending release announcement was my own doing. In hindsight it was the wrong move, but I went with the info I had and thought I was correct. Lesson learned and no big deal. Meme away!

SEs have benefits beyond blade rigidity, but the Era does narrow the gap between them I think.

Any recommendation as to which plate is most similar to the Blackbird? The Ti Blackbird is my absolute favorite razor and the only thing I've shaved with for weeks on end.

Shane, what might those other benefits of an SE be, beyond blade rigidity (please)?

Level 5 is similar to the Blackbird's results, but it doesn't feel at all similar during the shave. These are really different beasts.

Blade choice is the big one. Artist Club blades have such a wide variety in performance that it turns every razor into something of an adjustable. ACs are also about a third wider than DEs so they cover more territory in a single pass. Finally, SEs tend to last much longer than DEs.

Shane,
I suspect the blade clamping and blade rigidity may be due to the tight tolerances that are obtainable due to the parts being printed instead of machined.  I suspect that  the Era tolerances may exceed all other machined DE's, with the exception of the Henson (which is .005).  You have the specs and 3DEO has the tools to make the measurements.  If you are that tight on tolerances, it is a HUGE difference from other DE's and a fantastic selling point to promote the product.  You are correct...the shave with tight blade clamping will increase the comfort level exponentially, without affecting the efficiency.
