You should check out "Badlands: A tribute to Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska" for some great takes on the songs by other artists. Ben Harper nails "My Father's House" and it has Aimee Mann & Johnny Cash too, so you can't go wrong.

It gets regular rotation on my Turntable.

Go D/L or buy it and thank me later.

For everyone else, if you listen to the lyrics and this song doesn't move you, something is wrong.

@"Bruce" , great post great music - I don't know why but I didn't get an alert for this post and was just strolling through the music and here it is. Those are great versions of Nebraska songs, Ben Harper's rendition of My Father's House is moving. I'm a fan of Springsteen for sure - anybody who can write lines like "Now I'm working down at the carwash where all it ever does is rain." is a genius. The River, what can I say. Thanks for sharing this, I'm going to find Badlands.

Fan of BH. His essentially tribute album with his Mom Ellen is great too.

Tonight in the KWSher house a little Dylan Leblanc and a lot of Ray LaMontagne.

Last night we were listening to the latest from Sturgill Simpson, Lumineers and The Wild Feathers...

Simpson's cover of Nirvana's In Bloom is particularly tasty IMHO.

Can't go wrong with the Lumineers.  Smile

Their latest Cleopatra just hit and on first listen- solid if you're a fan!

Marko I am all over the map musically but during my "formative" years was into punk or whatever you want to label the genre by decade. One of my greatest concerts was the Ramones- a friend of mine's brother was their sound guy and we got to hang backstage during the show and then on their tour bus after. Joey drank Yoohoo the entire time. So very cool and of course a fantastic show.

My first Ramones show was at the Armadillo (R.I.P.) in Austin during their first nationwide tour. After every song, the crowd would throw their plastic cups of beer at the band, thinking it to be punk protocol, whereupon Joey would use a lot of bad language intended to stop the beer-chucking. By the later stages of the show, beers were being thrown while they were performing, as well. Very frustrated and angry, I suspect they ended their set early. Nevertheless, to me it felt history-making.

In reading through this thread, I'm impressed by the diversity of music represented. There's a lot of music out there that deserves to be heard!

Around here, "The Sonics Live at Easy Street Records", "Raw Power from the Roof of Pike Place Market" and a compilation of 1984 Green Day outtakes were all very popular.

Nope.

It is a feeding frenzy now with titles up on eBay before the event and people flipping them as soon as they get home.

Every day is RSD for me.

I'm a fan of The Sonics as well as a huge PJ fan....but not Sonics in their 70s.

And a quick look shows the title all over eBay. Vinyl fans are not buying these at the store, people are scooping them up to sell. It's even more frustrating to me then people flipping new, hard to acquire razors.

That's really a shame, Bruce. My company was a huge part of both the Sonics and the Raw Power release. The intent, of course, is to get the vinyl into the hands of the end user. I'll PM you for you're further thoughts.

P.S. I think you might be surprised by how much those old codgers have still got it. The guest vocal from Ed Vetter didn't hurt, either.
