I have always morning shaved until recently.. I have been experimenting with evening Shaves and really like the extra time and the clean feel before bed! Nice to have a few extra min in the morning....

I almost exclusively shave at night now. I find that for me a good warm shower, a shave with a pleasant scented soap, and some relaxing music help me unwind and I sleep better.

For no particular reason I shave in the night after having a shower and before going to bed.

I generally shave at night because my work requires me to be there early enough that it simplifies my family's morning routine for me to shower and shave at night. I prefer to shave in the morning because it helps me feel better throughout the day. However, shaving at night gives me something to look forward to and helps me unwind before bed. It also leads to other "unwinding" activities (if you know what I mean).

Pro's:
 - Going to bed clean means you don't deal with dirty sheets.
 - You generally sleep better.
 - You go to bed smelling good (translation: "smelling sexy" Wink )
 - More time to make it a quality shave.
 - Fewer distractions

Con's:
 - Fragrances won't last as long into the day.
 - 5 o'clock shadow at 9 am.
 - Not feeling as "fresh" when you go to work.

As a head shaver, I can sometimes shave my face in the morning and my head at night to get the benefits of both (plus the feeling of a smooth dome on your pillow is exquisite). I may even do a one-pass face shave to touch up at night.

Overall, I think you just need to figure out what works for you in your world.

when I shave at night, I'll just apply more AS balm/splash in the morning before heading into work.

As you can see from these answers, Greg, it is whatever works for you at the time. It's all good. Smile

I shave after I shower almost exclusively. The difference between my shave comfort and results w/ and w/out a shower is huge.

I mostly shave in the morning before work, but sometimes kids or work interfere and I end up rushing out and showering at night. Since my beard only grows fast enough to require shaving every other day, and I'm not in a job where I greet the public every day, I'm well within tolerances the morning after.

I have always shaved in the morning.
When I was in business I had to put on a good appearance although I found shaving a necessary chore.
Now that I am retired I can not wait until morning when I can fully enjoy a luxurious, languid wet shave.
I still can't go out of the house unshaven.

From this week, I am going to try shaving at night and see how it goes. I have a fast-growing beard, so hopefully I won't have too much stubble during the day. I may use my aggressive razors more often (R41 and Fatip) to make my shaves last longer.

Do you shave in the morning or at night? What are your thoughts about shaving at night?

Thanks,
Greg

I generally shave at night, but I do love the feeling of a great shave as a day starter. No less a literary light than James Joyce offered his 2 pence on this in Ulysses, in the catechistic chapter 17:

[Q] What advantages attended shaving by night?

[A] A softer beard…a softer skin if unexpectedly encountering female acquaintances in remote places at incustomary hours: quiet reflections on the course of the day: a cleaner sensation when awaking…[and a more leisurely shave since, in the morning, one's shave is often affected by:] a clattered milkcan, a postman's double knock…relathering the same spot…a faster rate of shaving and a nick [due to rushing]….

The book opens with a shaving scene using a straight razor. I suspect Joyce must have given the hobby lots of thought, and, indeed, he appears mostly clean shaven apart from a tidy mustache and narrow goatee.

I usually shave, every other day, after I shower and get ready for work. I don't get ready for work until around 1 in the afternoon. Occasionally I will shave at night on my days off, it is really based on what is most convenient as far as time goes.
