My morning routine has expanded with getting three kids ready for school and running prior to them waking that it leaves little time for a good shave.  Night shaving has become a staple for me.  As an assistant principal of a elementary/middle school with an hour commute it is actually a way to de-stress from the day.  I will take a little stubble the next day to get that relaxation of a good shave.

I usually shave at night after I shower due to morning time constraints. I too can take my time and have a relaxing shave late in the evening as opposed to rushing out the door early in the morning. When I do have to shave on a weekday morning it's a brushless shave cream and a Joris DE, nice fast and easy. No time for a proper straight razor shave.

What brushless cream do you use, Doug?

Right now I have been using two different ones from LUSH. Both are OK, nothing great but not horrible either. Dirty and Ambrosia are the two I have. I had hoped Dirty had a stronger scent to match their bar soap as it's a great scent. Sadly the scent is very weak.

All of these.

From this week, I am going to try shaving at night and see how it goes. I have a fast-growing beard, so hopefully I won't have too much stubble during the day. I may use my aggressive razors more often (R41 and Fatip) to make my shaves last longer.

Do you shave in the morning or at night? What are your thoughts about shaving at night?

Thanks,
Greg

I am in a very similar situation as you. I would rather have my shave in the morning, however, I find that a late night shave is more convenient and less rushed. I don't have an exceptionally fast growing beard though, and my job does not require a clean shaved looks, so it works well for me.

I say do it like that. Nice unrushed comfortable shave at night, AND plenty of time with baby in the morning. Can't beat that.

I prefer to shave in the morning, but it doesn't always turn out that way. I like starting the day with a good shave. A cup of coffee nearby, taking sips in between passes. I'm usually more "centered" the mornings I do that.

I tend to get more BBS shaves at night though. I'm more analytical then and really focus on technique. I'm also able to listen to music when I shave at night. Very enjoyable.

is there any science behind the best time to shave - morning or at night? are the oils on your face more active during certain times of the day -- meaning...if you shave just after waking up, is your skin less oily than after you went about your day, spent time out in the sun, drank some fluids and had some food?

I've tried shaving in the evening, it worked well for a while, but it didn't last long. Went back to shaving every day following the shower. That's the way I've always done it, and it looks like I won't try to change it again. I also tried shaving twice a day, morning and night, but I probably don't need to tell you how fast that started to seem like a bad idea!

I shave mostly at night because I usually get up early / have 2 young kids and it's something to look forward to at night.

I also shave after showers and usually shower at night (and after workouts during the day).

I miss the fresh shave / AS scent during the day, but have an arsenal of EdTs if I want a scent.
