This category of razor seems to be the holy grail for some people: Mild shaving with mid or high efficiency. Being able to get a close comfortable shave without irritations.

I have not came across many of these types except couple. Gillette Tech, Razorock GC68, and Razorock Mamba 53.

I've been shaving with the Gillette Tech this week and it's been a blast. Just enough blade feel to know it's there and it still mows down the growth. I still buff towards the end but I'm left with a close shave without irritations.

Couple razors that are mild and not efficient enough for my liking: DE89 and Merkur 34C. I know these are some of the most loved razors out there and everyone has tried them at least once. But no matter how much I buff with them, I am not able to get a satisfying result at the end. Either I'm left with some stubbles that annoy me or I get a closer shave at the expense of some irritations.

What are some of your Mild & Efficient razors or your experience with them?

For me, the Tatara Masamune

Also the Alpha Outlaw Mild plate is very efficient also

Razorock Mamba
Apollo Matrix mild base plate

I have found the blade to be key in these mild tools.

For me Feather, Astra Platinum, Permasharp, and KAI work best for these low gap no exposure razors.

This was going to be my answer.

I also have the original Lupo DLC in this category. It’s such a shame that he’s no longer making that razor, it’s my go to anytime that I have any irritation and I want to make sure that I have a simple smooth and comfortable shave.

The Henson Mild paired with a Nacet. I shaved today after a full week of growth; an efficient and smooth shave.

I come at this the other way - I look for a highly efficient shave with a reasonably smooth feel. To get the efficiency I want there has to be some blade exposure, but some razors give a significantly more pleasant face feel without any sense of harshness. Rocnel Sailor, Blackland Tradere OC and H&S P076 are the razors that do this best out of everything I’ve tried, for me.

Yeah there's some good options out there. Feather AS-D2, Henson Ti Med, Agressive, Masamune. I'd rank those in that order in terms of aggressiveness, efficiency and that but all very smooth shavers. I think the Era could make an appearance here too with the right thing. I wanted less aggressive and not as much blade feel and got that with the Lvl 3 SB I have. Just remember these are our subjective opinions, and what you find the best is up to you and your face. I'm still learning like the rest of you, and I was a bit skeptical that just a change in metal could help overcome some of what I didn't like about the SS Blackbird, and I still need more time, but I think those claims have some merit. Realized using the Ti BB that my SS has a 101mm handle. Might want to get an 85mm to test that out too. This isn't to play down what others recommend by any means. Nothing beats experience, but taking what you currently have experience with, and finding people that have similar tastes to what you have can do wonders when narrowing down products. Even those that might veer out of my areas of what I like are valuable and are helpful should my preferences ever change.

Save yourself some time and figure out whether you ride the cap or ride the bar. For example: Mamba, ride the cap. BBS(similar design), ride the bar. If you like the Tech, go grab the new Blackland Era in 3SB(or OC). It has the same blade feel and low profile, but is modern design at a reasonable price. They are sold out of the 2SB, if the 3 ends up being too much, but they will re-stock in short order. I have a Tatara and it is my favourite razor, but at a cost. Especially if you don't yet have things narrowed down. The RR Mamba, or Maggards version, is a foolproof mild razor for a great price, but I don't have one. The blade is more curved than a Tech.

I get pretty amazing shave from the Henson Ti Medium. It’s right on the edge for my face, and really works on my tough spots. If I put the wider Kai blade in it, I have to be careful, it’s just a bit much on blade feel. Prefer it to the Al Henson, as the Ti is 2x the weight. Extra mass works. I’d prefer stainless, but I don’t think Henson is going that way.
