Another little thing I thought of as an afterthought is one that is so simple as to be easily overlooked: time. By time I mean that after you have your face lathered just to where you want it and before taking one stroke simply do something else for a minute or two in the bathroom before commencing with the razor. Let the lather soak in a bit more. It can do no harm, especially if a person rushed their prep a tad. Also, when I do this I "refresh" the lather already on my face before shaving after the short hiatus. Perhaps I was already at the point of diminishing return after the first lather as regards beard saturation, but this is just a small way of confirming as such. YMMV.
I have two "little things" that improve my shaves whilst actually making them worse. My 5 and 3 year old love to come to the bathroom now when Im shaving and have me lather them up and shave them with an empty Feather Popular. My shaves are certainly not as good with them in the bathroom, but somehow my shaves have vastly improved. Even better is after asking my 3 year old daughter why she wasn't in her bedroom at 9 p.m., she looked at me and said "I'm going to shave" as she walked into my bathroom.

That's great. Even though at this time you may think that these days don't end, they do all too quickly.

It is still darn stressful at times, but I also always know all to well how quickly time is passing and how I will long for those "little things" when my bathroom goes quiet again.Nobody said raising kids was easy but man, is it ever worth it. Your story of your little ones shaving with you reminded me of back when my son was maybe two or three. He would come and play with me when I was getting ready for work early in the morning, tugging at my clothes as I was trying to put them on and asking me to stay home and play. One morning I told him that I had to go to work to earn money so I could buy him toys to play with. He paused and looked thoughtful for a moment and then scampered out of the room coming back in a few minutes with his piggy bank which he handed to me and said here's some money dad, now you can stay home and play with me. Sweet. Also, be careful what you say because their minds are working all the time

Here’s a quick tip. I shave after I shower and I’ll wear a towel wrapped around my waist. I got tired of constantly tightening the towel to stop it from falling off. I tried those pre-made wraps with Velcro but didn’t like the stiff Velcro tab digging in and the microfibre material that sticks to dry hands. So I bought some cheap cotton bath towels of normal size and a good quality chip clip. The clip holds the towel on and It works well. I put it next to the soap tub for scale
