I tried the cold water shave this morning. It was better than I expected. Very soothing and my skin felt firmer against the razor. I liked it an while don’t think it will be an every day thing I’ll definitely do it regularly. Thanks Happy2

Great to hear. I know it's not as luxurious and calming as a great hot water shave but I find it really works for my skin, especially on hot summer days!

I wonder if a combo of cold and hot will work better? I can see how cold might be better for lathering as it "might" make it so the lather dissipates slower so will retain moisture/creaminess for longer. It also makes sense that the cold water will help in reducing inflammation (debatable) only reason I say it is debating is there is or maybe was an ongoing debate in the medical field / sport science field on weather icing truly does help. I can explain more to those who are curious. However, in shaving I do also see a detriment in shaving in which the pores are not as enlarge so you cannot get as close as possible.

Thinking maybe rinse off with cold water after each pass to lower irrational and let it settle for a bit before returning to and rinsing again with warm/hot water to open the pores for the next pass? So cold water lather -> 1st pass -> cold water rinse -> wait -> hot water re-rinse -> 2nd pass something like that? Or maybe even tailoring the water to suit the pass IE hot water for passes you know you do not have irradiation issues with and cold water for ones you do have issues with.

Seems I might have more to try out within the week Smile

A quality facial cleanser that is milder in its "soap" properties but contains active ingredients like salicylic acid or glycolic acid would help.  A glycolic acid wash/toner in the night before shaving is a great exfoliator for the overall face that includes non shaven parts like forehead, around the nasolabial folds.

I do 2 passes warm water(WTD, XTG) and the third ATG pass with cold water(as cold as possible). That works really well. Also, I use a small amount of cream smeared on my face and then use the brush on a soap and face lather. That really makes my face slick and gives a nice cushion.

That's what I use!! I sometimes even use a moisturizer post-shave that has 0.5% salicyclic acid. AHA, BHA & LHA are our friends!!  Wink

Excellent and thanks for chiming in.

Sunscreen and other products are needed for a well rounded skincare routine.  It is not just the shave.

It may be a guy thing but surprisingly, taking care of your skin results in healthier skin.  Who knew?  In addition to the products mentioned (or similar) its important to be gentle with your skin, especially the face.  I know that for a lot of guys, especially the younger guys there can be problems with oily skin and breakouts or razor bumps and ingrown hairs.  The temptation is to go after the problem areas with high strength cleansers and scrub it all away.  Thats a mistake.  Be gentle on the skin, no scrubbing and tugging and stretching - your face takes enough abuse as it is, just boldly leading the way, unprotected as you move through your day.  Time will take its toll on your skin, especially your face but there's no reason why you should be helping the aging process along.
