Did anyone else back the Kickstarter campaign for the Leaf Razor? Its a "Cartridge" razor that uses DE Blades. Looks like it can be used with one, two, or three split blades to customize your shaving experience. Just for kicks I backed it.  Design-wise it's not all that interesting and looks much like any other cartridge razor, I'm more interested in the concept. Most folks who turn to DE are upset with the sky high prices of cartridges, others are upset with the quality of the shave carts give. I think this potentially could solve both problems if they pull it off. What does everyone else think? Thoughts?

The design is definitely intriguing and seems well thought-out. I opted not to back the campaign, as they had already secured the necessary funds by the time I first heard of the razor, and the projected sale price was not that much more than the packages they had left for backers.

I put the estimated release date on my calendar and will definitely return to see how the project is doing at that point.

Gillette Guard clone?

In all seriousness though, a DE blade usually lasts me all week. Using both edges. So if I got this I'd be changing blades twice as often? No big deal. Same net in the end. Except why a screw? Seems overly complicated for a shavette with the handle on sideways...

It indeed does seem like a Gillette Guard clone, with blades you replace yourself (from one to three blades) instead of the replacement cartridge.
I believe it's quite different from a sideways shavette due to the pivoting head like a regular cart.
I wonder if this razor would be ok with TSA? On first glance it looks like any other cart razor.

I don’t think the razor itself would pose an issue with the TSA or any other travel security instance. I think the problem is always the blades, and in this case, the half DE blades would probably cause just as much of an issue as whole DE blades. TSA and others only seem to accept cartridge blades onboard aircraft.

Correct, but if the leaf razor is already loaded with blades it might be impossible to tell on TSA scanners and whatnot that they're split blades. This could either be a huge headache for TSA or a blessing for us DE blade users. I guess only time will tell.

I didn't even actually read the Kickstarter page. Only looked at the pictures.

How many blades can you put in it? What are they charging for one? What materials is it made of?

I guess I should look for myself...

$79 after the campaign...

Yikes.

Looks interesting. I wonder how sturdy it is. Lots of parts and bits.

If it survives the drop test I'll be impressed!

That’s true, hadn’t thought about that. If those leafs that separate and hold the blades are metal, then it really will be difficult (if not impossible) to tell anything apart in a scanner.

Clearly not the most sturdy razor — lots of moving parts. I wonder if they are conducting any strength tests on it during the development phases. You definitely don’t want to drop that thing when the screw is out and the leafs are open…
