In what order did you acquire your first razors?

I'd like to hear about the thought process that you used when choosing your first few razors. As you became more experienced using those razors how has your opinions changed? Here is my first four razor acquisitions and why to give an example.

1.) Edwin Jagger DE89-- this is a beginners icon, and had better Amazon ratings than the Merkur 34C. Still a great razor, but I don't think I used it once over the last year.

2.) PAA DOC. There was a lot of hype over this razor when it came out. It was very affordable so I bought this expecting a great razor. Boy was I right. This has become my favorite travel razor because it is light and I can use it when in a hurry and not worry about getting a bleeder.

3.) Feather AS-D2. After a year of DE shaving it was clear that this wasn't a passing hobby and I decided to get something of exceptional quality that will last for ages and be passed to my heirs. After much research I decided the Feather was an ideal razor since it was known as a mild razor that could be used daily without eventual irritation.

4.) 1959 Gillette Fat Boy. I wanted to try an adjustible razor and began looking for these gems in local antique stores. I found a Fatboy for $15 and didn't hesitate. I then sent it to Razor Emporium for a Rhodium ReVAMP, and now this is perhaps my favorite and most beautiful razor.

1. Merkur 34C. This razor was being pimped on Weasel & Widget when I first started shaving, so I bought one. Turned out to be a really good razor.

2. Edwin Jagger DE89L. 'Cause I saw pictures of it and it looked purty. Turned out to be a purty good shaver, too.

3. Gillette Slim adjustable. Gillette adjustable were supposed to totally rock. Turned out that they did indeed totally rock, and for only $20. That was the going rate at the time, and they can still be found in antique stores for about the same price.

Almost identical except I started with:

1. Merkur 38C
2. Gillette Slim
3. DE89

Started with a Edwin Jagger DE89. Based on research seemed like a good starter razor. I like it and used it today.

Next came a Gillette Fatboy - like the classic old school razor.

Then came the Parker 26C open comb because I had wanted to try open comb.

After that I worked on finding the various Gillettes like the Red Tip, Slim Line, and Super Speed.

Don't really have a desire to buy any others.

1) Merkur 1904 Open Comb (The sole reason I purchased this is because I thought it looked cool, it still shaves very well)
2) Merkur Progress (I wanted to mess about with an adjustable- Absolutely loved this razor when I first got it. I still use it, but not very often)
3) '59 Gillette Fatboy (This became my favorite razor when I nabbed it. This is my go-to razor for the most part)
4) Merkur 37c Slant (never tried a slant before, loved it. I use it a few times a month)
5) RazoRock Baby Smooth (This razor shocked me. I often use this for ATG passes after starting with another razor)
6) Rockwell 6S (Another great razor, I don't touch any of the adjustment plates other than the 1/3 plate, everything past that is too aggressive for me. I also use the Merkur topcap with the Rockwell handle and its amazingly efficient and comfortable.)

First... HD 34C by Merkur.

Second... EJ89

Third and Forth were bought together... Progress 510 and 37C by Merkur

Then the slippery slop began and I forget the rest of the order but dozens and dozens followed.

5) Mühle R41 (My #2 Favorite)

1. Merkur 34C HD - I did a little research before deciding to try traditional wet shaving and this is the razor I picked. Great razor.
1b. Feather Popular - I spotted this right after I ordered the 34c and liked the reviews. As it turned out, this ended up being my 1st DE razor used, because it was delivered first. Good razor.
2. Gillette SuperSpeed - Decided I wanted to try vintage about 3 months in. I got caught up in bidding on eBay and paid $43. It wasn't $43 nice. Lesson learned on bidding!
3. RAD! So many vintage razors I don't even remember the order anymore. I use a NEW LC most days now. I still have most of the 30-40 vintage razors I've acquired, except those PIF'd. My $7 F4 Toggle is still my favorite acquisition though!

Very interesting. The AS-D2 is the best purchase you made and the Muhle R41 is your 2nd favorite. These appear to be on completely opposite ends of the spectrum. Can you expound? I actually love the AS-D2 for its mildness but I am really intrigued by the R41 because of the aggressiveness.
