Elfskin, you're right, that is superb customer service by HLS. It's great news they are sending a replacement handle.
Thanks for the compliment. I’m still feeling out the Taiga, but I think it will be the lead in my rotation

Heard back from customer service last night and they are consulting with manufacturing to make sure that just sending a new top cap will be ok. Below is their response. Great company and I should hear more Monday.

Good afternoon

Wait until Monday, please. We need to consult with the manufacturer on how to do better. Replacing the top cover should not affect the overall functionality of the razor, but it is better to talk all the nuances with the manufacturer, so I will write to you on Monday evening how we get the answer.
We apologize for the appearance of the top cover, we will certainly solve the problem in the best possible way.

This morning I dialed back up a bit to a full 360 degree turn or 10 from my count from starting dot all the way back around through the setting back to the starting dot. Used a thrice used Feather blade and got an amazingly close smooth shave. I was extremely light touched with this shave and let the head do all of the work. No nicks, cuts or irritation. Just and incredibly close 2.5 pass BBS. I will be doing that face feel all day today because I could feel and hear the razor mowing down 2 days growth effortlessly. I do a WTG, ATG and XTG shave and I felt like I could have stopped after my first pass. My last shave with the Taiga was super smooth as well but I dialed that one back to 4.5 with the OC plate. Next shave with the Taiga will be with the SB plate opened all the way up which is about a 6.5-7 on that one. LOOT would know what the blade gap is at 10 on the Rocnel. On the Taiga, opened all the way is about a 1.58-1.60 blade gap. I am really enjoying comparing these 2 machines! The Sailor was absolutely phenomenal today!!

[Image: lrNuwlJ.jpg]Got the Taiga in the mail Saturday late afternoon so yesterday’s shave was my first shave with the new Taiga razor that’s in the pass around.  I used it on setting 5 and did a WTG and ATG pass and ended up with a very solid Level 2 BBS. I was on a day and a half’s growth so I’m going to let my beard grow until my Wednesday morning shave and set the razor on a higher setting. My first impressions? Well I’m loving this razor. Smooth and efficient and very much like my Gibbs and I can’t wait to test the higher setting’s to see if it maintains the smoothness I felt in this shave. Oh used a brand new hand stropped Feather Blade in it for this superb shave and the blade seemed to pair well with the razor. The fit and finish was very nice on this prototype and it’s a good sign of what the production version will be like I’m thinking. Not sure on wether I’d opt for the Ti handle option yet so I’ll wait till I use it a couple more times but I’m probably going to order one once they are in stock again. I liked it that much!

I used the CBL Premium SIR Fougere that Chris sent me for this shave and I really enjoyed it a lot. Scent was great ( I’ll say more on that later) slickness was excellent and I actually mixed enough for a 3 pass shave but only did two passes because I wanted to check out the post shave so when I was done with my 2 ATG pass I rinsed and reapplied a thin layer or the lather as I cleaned up my gear and then rinsed with cold water and didn’t use an Aftershave for about an hr. The soap gave me a nice dense lather which is what I prefer and it lathered up quickly and rinsed out nicely as well so another winner for me!
So here’s the other part.. I like the cleanFougere scent and I’m honestly very picky on Fougere scents This is not a dark Fougere but a light clean one which definitely I enjoyed very much. So here’s the bad part! At least for me. After only using the soap and no aftershave and enjoying the leftover scent trail the soap left I should have just stopped there. I used the Asylum Fougere AS splash and it’s more of a Fern scent. Well it overpowered that nice clean scent of the soap and it didn’t pair well with the soap!! So here’s what I did and some may laugh at this but I took a scoop out of the soap puck and washed my face to get rid of the aftershave scent and put another layer on and left it on for about 5 minutes and then just rinsed with cold water and i wish they would make a matching AS in this scent.

I had my first shave with the OC plate this morning on my 2 day growth and I quickly learned a bit of dialing down is needed. The razor remains super smooth but it becomes extremely sharp. I had left it at 5 WTG and while it's merciless on the whiskers, it's not always playing nice with the small bumps/asperities so one needs to be mindful of the feather touch. I ended up with a couple nicks before adjusting my technique. I dialed down to 1.5 for the ATG pass and it worked amazingly well, BBS with very little buffing and no lasting redness. I'm totally sold on the OC plate, it is that efficient while being so silky still. Lots of fun ahead playing with the plates and the dial Wink

I have a question for anyone in the USA, I ordered my Taiga on 12/31/19 it was shipped on 01/09/20. The tracking says it left Russia on 01/12/20 but still hasn’t shown up on USPS tracking. Did others have this long delay?

It depends Mark. Did you chose small packet or express? If you chose express it can be somewhere between 14-21 days not including the couple of days at the International Mail Receiving Center which in my case is JFK in New York. When I purchased my START, I had it in 24 days. Now, if you went small packet, you can potentially add 2-4 more weeks to complete delivery. You will lose tracking until it hits the International Mail Centers for your area then you will get a notification that it’s being processed.

Shavemd Usually my Russian shipments (4 so far) from TiBam took about 4 weeks so I think you still have time to wait until it even gets to US then add a couple of more days to get to where you live. Based on my experiences so far I'd think you should get it in 2-3 more weeks.
