Here are line-up photos of my favorite adjustable shavers. Front & center, the Taiga fits nicely aesthetically & in performance with the others.[Image: J0VSDLy.jpg][Image: te9PuID.jpg][Image: VmsArcG.jpg][Image: gAITWhB.jpg][Image: gns7SvM.jpg]

I shaved with it once with the cc. It gave me the blown-away feeling that I got initially with a Gibbs. It is the real deal dealing efficiency & smoothness in spades.

Yeah, after having the prototype and feeling how smooth and efficient that was I am extremely excited to shave with my final
version.

I have had the opportunity to evaluate the Homelikeshaving Taiga Adjustable Razor and would like to thank the vendor, CK89 and all the other reviewers to date. I have had several shaves now and feel that I can add my opinions to all the other reviewers. Interesting that some people are just taking delivery of the finalized razor and are commenting on some of the differences with the prototype but I can only comment on the provided prototype.
The razor is a solid bar adjustable whereas the final version will also include an open comb version. It is a stainless steel razor with the option of a Titanium handle/sleeve which reduces the overall weight (to 96 gm). There are also some differences with the dial appearance according to those in possession of a razor from its first batch of 80.
This prototype is a modern inspired version of the vintage French Gibbs with some notable changes. It is entirely stainless rather than plastic and chrome plated like the Gibbs. It takes standard DE blades without the need for (blade tab) modifications necessary as when using the Gibbs. It is approximately 90 mm or 3.5” handle length rather than the shorter 3” of the Gibbs. Otherwise they both have a dial to increase the cutting edge gap for a more efficient and closer shave.
So how does this Taiga work ? The short answer is that it is spectacular smooth and efficient tool !
MANEURERABILITY: It is a heavy stainless razor at 117 gm it is manageable and only noticeable when going XTG if at all. Although its base plates and cap are not as narrow as some other razors it is able to get under the corners of the nose. Its handle is sufficiently grippy with its artistic pattern to give one the confidence in its use with wet or soapy hands. The 3.5” handle allows the balance to be away from the head (unlike the original Gibbs) which improves the handling of the Taiga. There are plenty of other razors that may be lighter and more nimble but this razor can easily accomplish what it needs too without much change in one’s technique. Of note this razor is easily disassembled for cleaning and in order to change from the solid bar to the open comb plates.
SMOOTHNESS: In the World Shave Off Showdown the smoothest razors included the original vintage Gibbs, a titanium Timeless and Raw Shaving RS10. Others have had very smooth shaves with high gapped Wolfman WR2 and this Taiga is in the same category as these others. At it’s various gaps it yields a smooth shave with little to no blade feel. The first time I used it it was so smooth I suspected it was not cutting my whiskers – I was wrong (see below). Whether it is at a number 2 , 6 or twice that to the equivalent 10 or 11 the shave is exceptionally smooth. It reminds me of the very smooth yet mild RazoRock Mamba (0.53 gap) or any similar mild razor. I suspect the blade exposure is negative or at least neutral as the face feels very smooth irrespective of the shave direction.
EFFICIENCY: This is where things get interesting as I have found that with the lower gaps of 2 I still get a very close shave whereas when it is maxed out at the equivalent of 10 or 11 I get iTech or Wolfman 145 efficient shaves. I had a similar degree of amazing efficiency in the upcoming (3-piece) Sterling hyper-efficient razor which I reviewed 6 months prior (it should become available shortly). These efficient shaves are nevertheless smooth which, as many of you know, is not typical of most razors. A 2 pass shave at higher gaps of 4-6 or beyond are extremely efficient yet there is no drag since this razor is exceptionally smooth.
PROS:   1.           A great combination of smoothness and efficiency at all gaps.
              2.           To include a solid bar and open comb plate for even more variety.
              3.           Used non-modified regular DE blades.
4.           Nicely machines in stainless steel with titanium handle/sleeve option.
CONS:   1.           Some may not like the $250 price despite all the possible configurations.
              2.           Russian made so overseas purchases will take some time to deliver.
              3.           A heavy steel razor even with the titanium handle ($40 option).

OVERALL this is a great razor because of its extreme smoothness and adjustable efficiency. There is a mild or aggressive gap for everyone whether you prefer solid bars or open comb (not reviewed with this prototype) razors. It’s maximum efficiency is extreme and in a very select company of highly efficient razors while still retaining class leading smoothness. The Taiga adjustable would definitely find a spot within my den which includes several hard to get efficiency kings. And in case anyone is wondering, after my prototype shaves I put my order in and I am looking forward to the final product being delivered in several weeks.

Just posted this on Instagram. The final version is just outstanding in every way. I changed my handle out for the titanium one and the only difference that I felt was the knurling is better. The weight seems like it’s the same. Love, love, love the shave this morning! This company is really doing things right and I can’t WAIT to see what they do next!

Forgot to post these. This is my current stainless steel adjustable collection. Sold my original B&R Adjustable and kept the black titanium coated one after I got the new Sailor.
