Well, shave was done a little while back. Nothing new to say except that it was a super close and fairly smooth shave. The 1.3 is not a huge jump up in blade feel as compared to the Original 1.18 SB but, the efficiency at which the razor and blade combo takes down hair is stunning.  A complete 2 pass shave with a slight touch up on the chin and Sir Adam, that’s all she wrote folks. I get a bit more audible blade feedback with the 1.3 and the slightest bump in blade feel. But honestly, you don’t need a huge jump in gap for your skin to feel the increased blade feel and the cutting prowess that it can potentially exhibit. And cutting prowess, this baby delivers while still keeping the signature smoothness that it is known for. Don’t get me wrong, as I feel it has a bit more tendency to bite over the 1.18 if you get sloppy. Otherwise, it’s a natural progression from the previous blade size.

There is a slight change in this prototype compared to the production version. As you know the blade tabs are covered on the START. Well, with this version, the blade tabs are ever so slightly exposed. Not as pronounced as say a Karve but, just enough for one to notice and feel. For those that like to have blade tabs exposed for removal and install, happy camper. To me it makes no difference as I have no preference in either of the formats.

On a side note, my friend Sergei, Gopneg sent me a full sized tub sample of his Bear Tallow soap. Just an awesome performing soap that builds a rich, creamy lather that delivers on protection, glide and uber slickness. And the scent is just right, not to weak or to strong. A clean Fougere type vibe with some citrus mixed in. Good stuff......

A superb shave.....

Blade tabs exposed. Sorry for the crappy pics. Production model on the left, prototype on the right with exposed blade tab ends...

Thanks man, I had failed to read the copy and paste as well as Andrew, so I did it right before you posted it.

Question, do you have a Start Razor and did you try to fit the new plates on your personal razor to make sure they were a match. I think they said a while ago that the new plates were going to match up with the original razors that people purchased. Just want to make sure.

The razor to the left on the last three pics is my personal START Razor with a 1.18 plate. If you look closely, the OG is slightly longer as it covers the blade tabs. But, I’ll check to see if there are any discrepancies between the prototype and original....

The prototype 1.3 base plate is smaller than the original START top cap as there is definite overhang from the cap on both sides. But, remember this is just a prototype and it could end up being made with the same dimensions as the original once a final decision is made to proceed with the production version. I would certainly hope so as this plate picks up on the efficiency a bit....

Awesome, thanks for that as I am impatiently waiting for these plates. Even though I have the Taiga, I still want these plates for my Start! I’m assuming the 1.3 plates would be in the 3-4 setting on the Taiga.

Actually, looks like 5.5-6 setting on the Taiga after looking at the chart they provided with blade gaps.
