Yesterday was about as realistic a market test as you’ll see. The fact that the tallows sold out so fast should be of great interest to Mohammad. It would tell me that Vegans are still a much smaller niche market. As such...I’d be concentrateing my efforts on tallows with a few very high quality vegans. Much more lucrative market. The marketplace has spoken......and loudly.

Another artisan reported a 3 to 1 sale rate of tallow vs. vegan. They no longer make vegan.

Even though I personally feel the vegan is on par with duck fat and tallow bases, customers are not ordering the vegan base, I won't make vegan soaps anymore, except with donkey milk, obviously they're no longer vegan soaps!

Elan, Kölnisch, and Lime will come back in the tallow base.

Can only speak for my experience but actually prefer the vegan formula during hot summer months here in the SouthEast.  Just feels lighter on skin and more refreshing although, as previously stated, the longterm post shave skin effects of Donkey Milk and Mallard seem better suited for sensitive skin type.  One of the reasons was in no hurry to sell the old stock of Kolnisch, Lavender and Lime.

I would exercise caution regarding conclusions from yesterday's release. For one, tallow unscented did not sellout nor did donkey milk unscented. One has to remember that the foci of the prerelease hype from Mo was new Mallard scents and restocking of Chypre and Angel. In fact don't recall any posting on release Page regarding anything unscented.... While not familiar with the sales statistics, nor the profitability ratios, one reasonable approach might be to maintain the vegan but at lower production and inventory than the animal based formulae soaps. Obviously Wholly Kaw and many others see value in maintaining a vegan line even though their reputations rest with donkey and goat milks and tallows. Most definitely, don't imagine a lime or lavender scent would be as impressive in tallow - the originals still literally fill the room with natural scent as soon as tubs are cracked open (there just isn't another GD soap that can so boast).

For sure permutations of the duck fat, tallow, lamb tallow, and donkey milk plus some new ingredients I got are on the books

I'm also working on developing a thicker skin to cope with the a certain contingent that will be freaking out and calling out my hybrid bases as trying to find something that sticks and riding coattails of other artisans.....

For me all the bases I've tried from Mo are good. I bought one of the new duck tallow soaps because the scent sounded interesting, and a lamb for the same reason. I'd buy the vegan formula in a scent I like too!

It’s apparent looking at the GD site that the tallow moves.....most of the vegans...not so much. These are cold, harsh, unemotional marketplace facts. It’s quite clear what the demand dynamics are. And these cannot be ignored. At best....I might have a vegan version of the best sellers. But...given Mo’s limited production and financial resources right now I’d stick with the bases that move..and what moves big. Lowest risk...Highest potential for success. Best cash flow. Least amount of unsold inventory. There will be time to expand later.

It all comes down to leveraging the current core equities of GD. The marketplace says they are the tallow and duck fat bases and his creative, well executed scents. Logic would dictate that he build on this successful formula.

This is all about what works on a specific person’s skin. For me personally...a GD tallow lime or even lavender would be amazing! I’d love Conca in tallow as well.
